Something does not feel right about this.
Will see how it pans out I guess. I also read somewhere this is the second time this guy has been car jacked, last time it was an FPV, but this is third hand information I heard. 100K is a lot of insurance $$ though. Very odd situation, two guys just happen to drive by, they just happen to have a gun, this guy (a mechanic none the less) drives around in the middle of no where in the dark tuning his car, instead of doing it in his workshop or on a dyno or at least over the up coming week end like everyone else, the crooks just happen to be interested in an old muscle car most people would not give a second look, they just happen to be in a semi rural area where this stuff generally does not happen, no witnesses, a car that would be hard to dispose of or sell parts off, they drive a classic 'white van', with a caucasian guy in blue track suit and a hoody with a gun none the less. Of course there is no rego, not even a partial. Either this guy is the unluckiest car owner or the planets aligned for the crims who were just randomly driving around camden looking for a broken down muscle car to steal. I am guessing we will find out what happened soon enough.

So you see, to discriminate is a crime now. One can not point the finger and say someone is wrong or bad, they may of been born that way, you know or evolved as such. A criminal has rights you know, even more so than the victim. (is that true or false ? ) |

To me the stolen at gunpoint sounds a little sus as well but you never know.... Let me offer up a few counter claims to some of the above speculation and some of the above has appeared elsewhere by others Whilst the guy is a mechanic he may not have his own shop so when he gets home has a little tinker for a cruise on the weekend. I went to the Smeaton Grange meet last night and washed my car literally half an hour before I left home as I didn't have time earlier in the day due to kids sport. He may work six days like a lot of people so has do this stuff of a night. What would this car be worth. To me doing an insurance job for the payout verse the proceeds from a sale is not worth the risk and also the car is lost forever if it is not recovered intact. You would have no idea how many people carry guns these days, but for the planets to align so to speak to have a non description white van, middle of nowhere, classic car what are the odds but the alledged theives may have followed this guy for a few kays waiting for an unpopulated area. |

This might still be a legit incident, who knows, we are all only speculating, and the police may not be disclosing all the information about the incident that they have.
May be they are waiting for the crook(s) (who ever they may be) to trip up or expose their actions in some way. There is also word going around that this is the second time the guy has been car jacked last time is was an FPV (not sure if this is true either, but it has been mentioned on other forums). Crims are not completely stupid, and would mostly be following the car and stealing it, because if they get caught staling a car it carries a very low penalty, many getting off scott free with good behaviour bonds. If they car jack a car at gunpoint it becomes an aggravated robbery, which carries a 25 year prison term and will have cops approaching you with drawn firearms and itchy trigger fingers.

you blokes dont give crims enough credit, some of them are quite studious and will case out something they deem as value to them and strike when opportunity presents itself.
have you ever left your house for 30 minutes and when you got back its been broken into and ransacked for valueables ?? we have, and no trace of them by the time we got home, as for taking the car for a run and making adjustments on the side of the road , been there done that many times, day and night, hobbies dont end at 5 pm. Edit , in fact regarding a bit of tuning on the road, night time was often the more prefered time, you could give it a squirt without worrying about traffic or other things. |

Which one would carry less risk?? Which one would be investigated by robbery detectives?? Which one would have cops on a higher alert?? Seems you are still struggling with the whole common sense thing

I simply pointed out that armed robbery attracts a much higher penalty that stealing, which is a fact, and most crims will know this, and any crim with half a brain would not be bothered stealing a XW Falcon at gun point as they are easily stolen when parked in a garage or shed and the owner is at work, unlike other high end cars that get car jacked where you need a key to steal the car, and they can not easily be stolen. It's pretty basic really, not sure what goes on in your imaginary world but them is the facts.

My first post . Hi aLL.
I don't know anything about classic car registration numbers.. But is a car reg plate ending with the letter H highly unusual? I saw 2 cars which looked to be like the stolen. car which appeared to be travelling together yesterday.. One of the cars had reg number ending with "H" . |

Welcome to the forum the H plate is for historic vehicles these are club plates and found on vehicles of special interest over @30 years old. Car must be owned by someone who is a member of a recognised car club and the car is limited in its use. i.e. not a daily driver and only used on club events etc...

Whilst it seems opportunistic sadly these things happen.
Many years back i had an expensive car audio setup in my xf falcon. Parked it in every night. I returned on christmas night thinking surely noone would take it on christmas. (Dont crims celebrate xmas?) I woke up on boxing day with windows smashed and car audio setup gone. Was covered by insurance and i added a car alarm ... first night i got the car back about 2 weeks later, parked it out and rear window smashed but alarm sounded and thiefs sped off. The tint didnt even set yet on the new window and i was back at the tint place for another tint. I had to sell whole stereo.. after that left car open everywhere and noone touched it Its sad but people suss you out and take things at first chance |

Already have both, just pointing out and clarifying the facts other's appear to try and obscure with stupid comments. But from your smart assed comment I am guessing you are also struggling with the basics.
May be instead of having a poor attempt of being smart add something useful to the topic at hand.

If the car was an original GT in good condition wouldnt it be worth close to the insured value anyway? Why would anyone risk getting busted pulling an insurance job? The only benefit is avoiding all the deadbeats you get when selling a car.
After seeing the guy on TV he looked pretty devastated, if all the heresay on here is correct he should get an academy award.

to me there's no evidence whatsoever that this is anything other than genuine
why does everyone think so many events are 'suss' and have crazy theories to 'back up' their thoughts? |

According to some posts in here someone who has their car stolen is immediately guilty of an insurance scam (in the court of public opinion) until proven innocent!!!!

To those assuming and making comments regarding this being a scam, I will give you some advice based on having had a vehicle I dearly enjoyed being stolen. I was accused by people for doing an insurance job (car was actually insured less than it was worth though), even to the point someone informed police i had done an insurance job.
Fortunately, even though charged on hearsay evidence, I was fortunate a car theft ring got busted the night before I was due in court and my car was one of 10 found being stripped in a "reputable" workshop. The people who were quick to claim an insurance job soon found themselves in court for defamation. Today with electronic footprints, this car owner could get a court order for admins to hand over details of everyone who has defamed him. So be careful what you say or write, you can legally be taken for a lot of money as I did to those that made accusations against me. |

Without getting into a long winded rundown on how defamation laws work, no-one in this thread has said anything to be alarmed about.
Making comment along the lines of, seems like, sounds like, a bit fishy, sounds doubtful, sounds a little sus and finding something hard to believe will not see anyone in court. Personally I think the car was probably stolen but who knows?

How about this? If you have nothing nice to say, shut the **** up and get a life. There is so much negativity in this world, I can't even watch the news now because it depresses the **** out of me. Tall Poppy Syndrome is alive and well in this country, and the victims are always made to feel like it was their fault. How about the **** who pushed a gun in his face? How about the accomplice who was probably laughing watching it go down? How about the ****** dismantling it for parts in a nondescript warehouse?
Too many ****** these days think the worst in everything, and it's why I get the ***** with people and prefer my own company. Serious, grow the **** up and give this guy some support, not the third degree. Rant over.

On the way to rob 7/11 thinks "hey wouldn't it be easier to just steal that instead? Probably worth a bit."
Case closed.

I agree, everyone has the right to their own opinions, but I think these people sometimes need to realise that most of us don't want to hear it. Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you have to say anything if it is nasty and not constructive or is insensitive. Can we all just be a little nicer to each other? Can we make an effort not to go for the lowest common denominator? There is enough bad stuff in the world, let's not add to it. I honestly don't know why I get upset over this stuff, and that I should have learned to deal with it by now. But I then get upset again, and blow my top. Hmmm, anger management classes?
