I would rather have a ute run into my car with me in it than a truck with 2 trailers attached weighing 20 tonnes and I am just as sure the difference between ute and truck would be obvious when they removed you from the accident by opening the door and helping you step out or simply used high pressure hose.

Truck has negative connotations. I wonder if using the word truck has a negative effect on the whole dual cab segment. Maybe make people reconsider getting a dual cab ute for primarily suburban duties.
Coincidentally the dual cab market fell last month for the first time in many months to private buyers (-1.8%) was averaging growth average of 15% growth this year before then. I can imagine Mitsubishi, Mazda, Nissan all ringing up Ford "stop calling then trucks, you are ruining it for everyone!" |

All the 4WD Mums are going to demand truck status now. As if they didn't bully their way into parking-spots already.

The other 'utes' that were real utes were the pre-WWII Fords. They still had the extra window, behind the door, like XD/XE/XF/XG/XH utes. But the main point about a real ute, is that the body is all one piece & it must be sedan based. What sedan is a Ranger based on ?? Dr Terry |

A Truck is something that carry's around over 2 tonne like to me and a small one at that.
Ya dual cab type of thing and all are called 1 tonnes like or a pickup or chassis cab and so on. Fords AU on is a pickup Utility. I think it was the Chev roadster utility that was the first in Australia then the coupe ute were produced from May 1934. |

By definition a Suzuki Carry is a van, but a Mighty Boy is a ute, as is a Proton Jumbuck & a Subaru Brumby. Dr Terry |

A bit like that scene in Crocodile Dundee "that's not a truck..." Nobody mentioned that the British also call them pickup trucks.
