The only problem about these companies, if you have an accident and the insurance companies put up a fight or does not cover certain costs, the costs are put back on yourself. Cost such as solicitors fee's, storage fee, hire car costs and car repair costs. Use these companies at your own risk, but make sure you understand what you are getting into before you sign anything. |

my insurance notice just came through to renew (NRMA).
Surprise surprise, my Agree'd value dropped from 19,110 to 13,000 with a whopping premium from from $1468 to $1440...... Did some quick quotes, other companies are throwing up around $900 @ $13k agree'd value with same excess/options/etc so NRMA is out the window this year. Seems like all car companies now say a 06 BF XR8 6Spd Manual in great condition Toxic paint (minor from bar marks from the freeway) mint condition inside, front leather seats barely have any fold lines in them...) with 107,000km's is only worth maximum 13k now, last year it was insurable for nearly 20k....... Can anyone suggest any decent companies that might insurer for more ? Makes me sad to think that some idiot could clobber me and write my car off, and i wouldn't even get enough back to buy another BF with the same gear (full leather/manual/etc/etc) in the same condition with about the same KM's.... :( (Guess i'd have to settle for a decent condition FG Turbo :P haha)

NRMA was cheapest again for me, they lost the plot for a couple of years but have picked it back up. XR8 insured for $60K for $650, pretty happy with that.

I have an import as well as the Falcon.
I have always used Shannons as no one else will touch an Import. No complaints from me, Shannons were good to deal with concerning the two incidents I have been involved with. Shannons also replaced a rear windscreen in my Toyota Soarer, under their one windscreen a year policy, which ended up costing them over $3000 ex Japan air freight. The only time I was ripped off was from HBF Car Insurance company. My wife got T-boned at an intersection. She was the 3rd car to cross the intersection. A young driver didn't see the red light. Who admitted 100% fault. This was the first & only car I had only 3rd party insurance cover on. The repair bill lowest quote was ~$12,000. The HBF Insurance rep came to my house and offered me a cheque for $5000. Naturally I complained bitterly but the bottom line was take it or leave it. He point blankly stated that if I took him to court the HBF lawyers would drag it out and make sure it would cost me a lot more than what I had to gain. Needless to say I don't have a lot of time for the HBF car insurance company, and an important lesson was learned. Now I pay for full comprehensive insurance even on my cheap car so I get an agreed value and I will let the insurance companies fight it out if I ever get into another incident. |

The fact you were offered 5K is amazing. The only avenue you could have pursued was to sue the young driver for the damage to your car, & if they 'aint got money, you get zilch! So I'm assuming the 5K came from the youngsters insurance company, provided they were insured of course. |

Yea he was smarter than I was at the time.
That is correct - the kid who ran the red light had full comprehensive insurance and admitted fault to the police at the scene of the accident, plus there were numerous witnesses. He was insured with HBF. HBF agreed he was 100% in the wrong. HBF, his insurance company, asked me to get 3 repair quotes which I did. I did everything by the book. I went to three independant repair shops. I even offered for HBF to repair the car with whoever they wanted to. I submitted the quotes to HBF and the rest of the story has been told. I lost a great car, got paid a fraction of what the car was worth at the time and ended up with no transport for the Mrs. I guess, like you said, maybe I should look on the bright side. I did get paid something. Which is better than absolutely nothing had the kid not been insured. Lesson learnt - full comprehensive insurance, agreed value, on all my cars now. |

Lol, Shannons don't even have the new XR8 in their quote system, yet have it on one of their ads.

My new FG X XR8 is insured with Shannons.
I just called them up and had them add it - no issues here in Perth. |

You shouldn't have to contact them, it should be in their database.
Did they give you a decent price?

I thought it was ok at the time, but can't remember what the number was. I just needed coverage quickly at the time.
I'll see if I can find the numbers for you. |

After giving them all my details up pops the page "you need to ring us for a final quote" screen. So I quit. The next day three hard sell types called, all of them got told I that if I wanted for them to call me I would have asked. I wanted an online quote. Never again.

Have learned that doing an online quote that requires your contact info is a BAD idea. They stop calling after about 2 weeks...
