It's doubtful that neither the Toyota or Honda would pass like that

The Mercedes 'A' class failed the Moose/Elk test a few years ago, so they (Mercedes) fixed the problem and sent it back for retesting.

Hmm so your argument is that you see lots of families in unsafe old cars, so whats wrong with them being in unsafe new cars instead?

The thing is the average Joe doesn't care at all about how much his car weighs, if he can fit people or luggage in his car in one trip instead of 2 then he probably will. I don't know anyone who has ever given a rat's **** about only taking 3 passengers or no luggage because its a bit heavier than it apparently should be according to some scientist in the other side of the world

So if you had a full tank and you where not in it...... they would be similar weight ? hmm surprising the st isnt a fair bit lighter, i guess the st has a bit more kit in it than the au .... not to hard there ay .

dunno if its right or not but XR8`s seem to be a listed as a little lighter than a similar equipped model in 6 cyl version, by 20 or 30 kg from memory, may be grand pas axe is a bit on the weighty side .

realistically, look at an touring ute set up for holidays, tradie utes etc there all mostly overloaded, just the kind of thing everyone seems to turn a blind eye to, and smash the truck drivers instead

Im not trusting the scale lol, went there today to off load some more junk, was 1.54 tonnes this time with more fuel. I dont think i have lost any weight

My G6ET was 1930kg's even on the dump scales with me in it and ~20 liters of used oil. The same load in my 65 mustang was 1200kg's on the nose.

That's an example of why people drop modern engines into old cars and do nothing more to modify the engine...why bother? The weight saving along would be worth a huge amount of horsepower.

Additional weight will increase your tyre's rolling resistance.

So spending that extra money on tyres for a modern car that was made post-1993 is probably pointless

This thread makes me even happier about owning an old rust bucket.

what does that mean? just because I can physically fill every nook and cranny of my boot with bricks, does that mean I should be able to do so and still be within the weight limits? of course not. It's my responsibility as a driver to load the car safely and within manufacturer limits.
