I ordered "MY F0RD" last week (with a zero instead of O), $425 for 7 letters or numbers on a steel plate, $575 for up to 9 on a perspex plate.
One off payment but you own the right to display, not the plate itself. Although you can sell the right to display if you want. (Western Aus)

I bought the plates 'IDRIVE' when BMW released its new ICC system 8 odd years ago

No idea what they are worth now but I was offered 1k from a stealership a few years ago

I really must get off my butt and sell them - they just sit in the shed

I have XXX-302 (QLD, black and white) for my coupe, came with it. I now have it registered in Vic with generic plates but when I move to Queensland I'll use them, they look great Although it wont be a 302 anymore by then, oh well it'll be close enough. 302ish!

I had planned on getting TUFF4D for about a year and then the week I went to order them they were taken

So instead I ordered TUFFXE for when my car is done. We have stupid rules and fees regarding plates here in NSW. Last year they cost me $110 to order then $440 a year so they are mine and then on top a $50 fee to have them in storage. Actually due to repay the annual fee and storage now More money out of pocket to have them sitting in an RTA safe. Wish I could just buy them outright like other states but thats not how it works here.

My brother has ordered SMOKES and is waiting for them to come in. He's putting them on his FG but the idea was just to have them as his burnout car wears fake SMOKES numberplates. He just wanted to make sure no one else used the name.

It is the same with all states, you do not own the number plate just the right to display them on your car.

In Vic you pay around $400 for the plates and then that alls you pay. If you are not using them, go to Vicroads and put them on hold until you need them.

Currently I got 2 sets of plates, 1 on my current car and the other on hold.

I didn't mean you hand the plates back, but if vic roads does not put a hold on the plate anyone can get them.

So everything that you do is to impress others?

If it makes the op happy, which clearly it does, why not be happy for him rather then pull out the pessimism.

Cheers Buggo
it was a pretty big thing for me at the time, given the monumental kick in the guts my doctor gave me in May
May, June, July are months i would much prefer to forget, however i have come out the other side of it a fitter healthier person.
Been on several different forums for 7 years now and I choose not to take the likes of pessimism, sarcasm and such to heart..im bigger than that.
Life is short..tho, not as short now as it couldve been

Last time I enquired about personalised plates in QLD, you just paid a whack of coin - depending on what style and configuration you wanted, and they were yours to keep forever - no ongoing fees.

I wonder what the go is with personalised plates in other states?

Cheers!

Edit: Sorry for the hijack MFP508.
dont recall paying anything other than the yearly fee way back when i got mine.. $255 year for what i have.. they will only issue plates to registered vehicles..

rego car.. issue plates.. cancel rego.. hang plates above bar..

I used to work with a guy who had the plates MFP-000 on an EL Falcon. I said to him you must be a big Mad Max fan and how lucky he was to get the plate .... but he told me he had never seen the movie and only got the plates because "MFP" were his initials and the "000" was just because he couldnt think of any decent numbers to put after it !!!

Not telling what I had on the ute, as hopefully it will be still available if I ever move back to that state.

My plate is a reference to one of my favourite TV shows, unfortunately I couldn't go an 8 character plate or I would have had the name of the spaceship "SERENITY" instead of the type of spaceship "FIREFLY". Yes, I'm a nerd. But not as much as the somebody who has "NCC1701" (I was going to look at getting "NCC1701" for the LTD but its unavailable).
