I think every Falcon has an improvement over the one it replaced.
The AU may have had subjective styling, but as a car (mechanically) it was better than the ones before it. |

OK my assessment is based purely on looks, You can't make an assessment based on performance or reliability unless you've owned each and every model. So here goes
Best?....The XA to XC series It usually takes me a while to get used to a new model but as soon as the XA came out in 72 I was hooked. They looked schmick especially in 2 door coupe configuration. I felt very similar when the BA came out but not as much as the XA Worst ? the AU. I dunno I thought I may have grown to like these cars but no, still feel the same way after nearly 10 years. Although IMO the Series 3 XR8 AU kitted up in either Blueprint or Sillouette is a dead set beauty and I reckon looks far better than it's equivalent BA/BF. These cars will become classics one day. BA/BF XR's won't ever have classic status IMO which is quite sad. The XR brand has just become too ordinary with everyday car buyers, and worse fleet buyers grabbing them, where as before the BA it was an enthusiasts car As for Falcons that have dated rapidly , the XD to XF series would win the award here. While they were nice in their day in typical 80's style, I now cringe everytime I see one. Very ugly , and i say that having owned both XD and XF Ghias which years ago were my pride and joy Cheers

Sexiest - XC Cobra - not a drivers car though
Best Driver - AU III XR8 - I love this car so much that when I was set to upgrade to a new lease with a choice of any car up to $70k I chose to extend the lease on mine for a further 2 years. Final payout is $110 @ which time I doubt I will sell it. PR |

Not after an argument but thought I could throw in that the first of a series can have some trouble, and by the end of the series they seem to have sorted most of it out.
I have had a 1979 351 XD, and XT with a 289 and 351, an ED V8 Ghia, an EF Wagon 5 spd, AU S1 (the Turbotaxi) an XF panel van, the BA Xr6T, I have used BA and BF XT's with work, AU egas, AU - and this list is Just the fords! I suppose I would be telling lies to say the XR6T isnt the best, but it is the newest . I think the answers people will be giving here are more like "what is the car that you liked the most, had the best run with and made you feel the best". Thats my thought.

What a pointless thread! Surprised it has got to two pages.
How many people here could possibly have any subjective input? Well, I for one I suppose because I have owned at least one example of every series since the XK. So here it is. The XK was undoubtedly the worst Falcon. Because it simply fell to bits on rough Aussie roads. But it looked OK - very modern for it's day. And it was quick and well-appointed. The AU is undoubtedly the best. Because its design and build was the very pinnacle in it's day. It was years ahead and today's comparative models are only a slight improvement upon it and so I discount them from being the "best" because they haven't "advanced" as much over the AU as what the AU did over all previous models. Apart from the XK, I would have to say the E-Series are the least inspiring of all the Fords models I've owned. Their lack of performance, reliability and style in comparison with the opposition offerings led Ford sales on an every decreasing downward slide. Then the poor ol' AU came along and copped the blame! |

I dont sell them anymore, just keep on collecting. They all have their little idiosyncrasies and enjoy each for different reasons. The only thing though is I would still swap my BA for the AU I sold to replace it. | [/url] |

XK-XP = Worst 3 speed manual gearboxes syncro clips always jumping out XK-XL= Vacume wipers faster you went the slower they went great for overtaking in the wet. XB-XF= Door Handles Snappin Top & Bottom ball joints given up early EA- EL =Headgasket problems AU= Styling and Climate controls on premium models fading out. Plus some reliablity problems with BA/BF ute diffs and I've only mentioned a few issues with some models. They all have their problems but as Falcon Coupe mentioned each model were more advanced than the previous model and each person differs and prefers a certain model so none are better or worst its what each persons perception what is the better or worst Falcon |

But if that is taken out of the equation, I would lean towards the EA being the worst, and the XB or XC possibly the best. The AU looks more the part on our roads today than when it was released. Car styling has changed and it now fits in much better, but the AU will always be known as the car that damaged the Falcon's reputation the most. Sad but true.

It is normally the first model after a huge change that people bag as it has teething troubles the X series were great then the radical change to the E series the EA 3.2 carby?? model was a flop with the problems and they got it right by the EB 4.0 and the EL was the ducks guts then the AU had its fair share of dramas mainly cosmetic by the time the AU2 came out it was a great car with the bugs ironed out

EA was such a leap that it came too quickly and the technology wasn't up to scratch to be offering that car for its price and as such suffered countless quality issues. Why is the AU triumphed as the ducks guts technology wise when alot of it came from E-Series techno DNA. The BA might share panels with the AU but took the biggest leap in the technology stakes. We should point our fingers squarley at the XK as Ford's biggest mistake, ever since then there have been little niggling issues with our Falc's!

ever since i owned my first EA... (5 speed mpfi falcon S)... i've asolutley loved them...
maybe it's for the love of the underdog.. i've owned 3 now.. but the lack of "moderness" started to get to me in the interior.. if ford had waited to release it.. i think things may have been very different for it's reputation... even you're average joe blow knows... "never by an EA falcon".. i don't think there are many other cars that can say that... i've now upgraded to an AU... which i'd always hated.. i'm starting to see they are actually not a bad car also... |

I have had my EA CPFI S 5 speed for almost two years and it is the best car ive ever had. I also have a Series 1 AU. The AU has given me a bit of grief over the years. The worst falcon ever will come out in 2010 with a V6.

I have owned XR XT XW XY XD XE XF EA EB EL AU Falcons I have also driven every model since XF at work. My favorite is my AU te 50 the worst car I owned was an EA Fairmont. Great looking car but I cost us more to repair than we paid for petrol so it was that car not EA's in general.

The worst/best Falcon is subjective. I have owned two, and my Dad has had them for years (until recently), however I have not had any problems with any of my Falcons, except for when the suspension collapsed in my AU. Poor Build quality has always been the Achilles Heel of Local Fords.
