my brother bought a captiva for the same reason you are looking. both he and his wife find it unpleasant to drive due to blind spots, particularly the rear pillars.
I've never driven it, he offered, I declined!

I know someone suggested an AU wagon with a third row... I've got one and I tell you for a temporary solution it's not bad. I've got three kid seats across the middle and the two seater in the back. I can still put a double pram in the back along with other stuff (more than a Tarago that's for sure). I also put a roof box on for travelling. If you're really worried about space you can get a single seat for the back.

I would be a bit warry of the captiva. There have been many issues with the original captivas and I know when I worked for holden we had many come back with warranty issues. Also as Thefargo mentioned it has terrible blind spots and I also found it to be like many other cars a bit small
