No, I just wanted the FG turbo.
But I wasn't expecting the turbo to be more economical at highway speed than the BF II 5 speed I had before the FG. |

when i got my ef ghia the economy was a added bonus (lpg), i just wanted a V8,leather,aircon, ef/el and sunroof. missed out the sunroof but gained the lpg.
now i dont know if i could handle paying for petrol again. even test drove a 700k old ba wagon the other day. |

Yes and No. I'm looking at selling my nissan patrol ute as i don't go 4x4ing. It uses a lot of fuel on the highway and drinks it around town. I want to get an XR8 ute. It will use less fuel then the patrol ute but It will use more fuel then the BA 6 ute but it will be better to use for when I'm towing, sound better and IMO looks better then the 6. So yes and no.

Yep, bought an au xr8 for economy....... sound strange yes but it was a bigg improvement from a v8 landrover disco, that thing had a 90 litre tank and i would get nervous at 330 k on the trip meter, thinking it may of had a vacuum leak aswell but

I've never owned an economical car (by today's standards) but I did drive a 2 cylinder buzz box around for 12 months, so I've paid my dues. My last car before the falcon had a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder with twin Dellorto DHLA 40s which drank more fuel than the BOSS, so that was a bonus. I couldn't care less though, I'd happily trade my current economy for more power.

Didn't buy a new car but bought another car.
Got a job off the tools and got tired of wrestling the ute around - hard to see out of, needs a big park space, and thirsty. So I bought a mighty, ground-pounding Toyota Echo with 100K km on it. Early model, air but no steer or glass. Took the back seat out to save weight and make room for bulky loads. It has a decent compression ratio, 4-valve head, and variable timing 1.3 litre. Run it on 95 as it gets more kays per dollar than 91, and is arguably a better fuel for the engine's internals. 98 is probably overkill. Fuel consumption is 5.9 l /100 km and the usual run is 40 km at 110 km/h. With air it goes to 6.1 l / 100 km, and with a load and air on a hot day at 110 km/h is about 6.3 l / 100 km. Goes hard enough to blow off my fellow oldies in their be-spoilered hipo sedans that they don't know how to drive, or are scared of. (BTW, there is baby-boomer hell coming down the track, with all these oldies tranquilised to the max and controls set to 'vague'). Young blokes look at me as if I'm going to wave a hanky at them, but as if I care. Though if I were a real man I'd fit a 427 SOHC (with nitrous for the hills) driving through a 'glide and a ski-boat V-drive. |

Yes, definitely. Fuel economy, relative to other options in their respective classes, was why I went for our two most recent purchases. Particularly with the 4wd, we could have gotten newer and lower kms with petrol, but at 15+ l/100km we would have baulked at driving a petrol. The diesel gets flat 10's no matter how much camping gear we chuck in it.

Bought it because it looked the ******.
It's big, stand outs, it's got a body kit, spoiler, sunroof and a cool interior with a decent enough 6 cylinder. Thats why I bought it. |

I work FIFO and I am only home 10 days a month.
So in that 10 days it is my right to burn a months work of fuel efficient fuel

My Wife's car is for fuel economy (Ford Festiva) I dont mind my 06 Ghia 6cyl at 9.9l/100k on the highway and town, My previous Mazda SP25 was sitting at 8.9l/100k.
