From memory I thought the E49 Charger held the Australian record over 1/4 mile.

The GTHO and XU1 are not purely about speed. They are about pedigree.
You can mod a modern-day car to fly, but what made the HO so damn special was the fact that you had a car that resembled what was driven around Bathurst at the time.

Compare that to now, and the only similarity is the shell.

For me, it makes no difference whether the HO is the fastest. Its contribution to performance cars in Australia is immense.

Whether it left Australia or not is almost irrelevant. In the world of motoring (which FYI spans the globe), the HO was a special car.

Never seen before, and hopefully never seen again (to those who want it back).

(The GT was sold in South Africa)
Its a four door car.... Fact
It was a production car... Fact
It was the fastest when compared to other 4 door production cars AT THE TIME... Fact
Anyone could buy it....

The GTHO 111 raced twice at Bathurst and won 1 and got smashed by the mighty XU1 Over rated yes it is the XU1 was a propose built race car also.
Again your twisting things....
In a straight line performance race the UX1 was not fast when compared to the HO. The UX1 was quick around the corners because it was lighter.
The HO wasnt as it weighed what? twice the weight of the XU1?
Your comparing apples with oranges...
Performance and Handling are two different things...

Im no wizz in this topic but can tell no one is addressing the question op has asked.

I believe on one of the posts this has been addressed. I'm quite interested in this topic but rather everyone post knowledgable and factual info.

Otherwise i can already see this post not making it to page two.

enjoy your weekend folks.

RSA Rhinos were not sold as Falcons, they were Fairmonts and if memory serves me right, there was only 2 of the mighty HO's sold in RSA. I could be wrong on the numbers of HO's but I am sure one of the Fairmont GT boys will know for sure.

It actually won four in a row.

It was the fastest 4 door in the world.
Do not confuse it with 2 door.

I'm amazed the E49 charger boys haven't ravaged this thread lol, but anyway with all the debacle aside whether it did or didn't it was only a 2 door coupe which put it in another class

I think you are right here the E49 was quicker over the 1/4 mile, another great aussie muscle car, for a 265 ci, 6 cylinder large bodied coupe it was pretty impressive in performance, top end speed i dont know.

F6 ~12.4/5/6/7/8 where is it these days?

M3 ~12.7;
M5 ~12.4;
335i ~13.5;
C63 ~12.3;

With the F6 seemingly so close, wouldn't it be nice to grab the title with a LE before the Bugatti ruins it forever more in 2013.

The title "FASTEST" has nothing to do with 1/4 mile times, its a reference to top speed and lap times.....
Havent seen a mag get under 13 over the 1/4 for a F6 yet either....

There seems to be allot of miss information and selectively anti info about the H3 here to...

was it the F6?

Who cares about the top speed

they are limited as are the FG's

a flash tuned FG F6 with no speed limiter is able to easily do 300km/h!

They have the power torque and aerodynamics to achieve it

Why must it always be the fastest car? Why does no one ever care about the slowest car? They are cars too!

Melz, always the voice of reason! It's not always about speed, but handling, looks, brakes, etc.

the weight was not the issue - the rain on the day was the issue when one of the cars was much lighter. similar thing i know, but the year before the lightweight pos could not get anywhere near the phase 3. nor the phase 2 the year before that

all race cars are built to race in dry conditions. in dry the little pos did not stand a chance against the greatest car australia has produced. it needed mother nature to turn her hand to give the pos a chance

and to answer the original posters question. it was the fastest four door production car of it's time. are any faster now - no doubt, but who cares. they needed 20-30 years of technology to do it on a regular basis

Fair statement but it had to rain for the Torrie to have a chance, and 1971 it was HO 1st to 5th from memory and then got second the next year. correct me if i'm wrong here????

Fastest, not 400metre drag times. F6 is a mere pimped taxi compared to these two big boys. The Brabus mercs are even faster, but do not quite fit the genre of production car.
And don't start with the flash tuned blah blah. Factory times and powers.

The GTHO was largely claimed as the fastest 4 door production car in its day, which is a huge achievement we will never see again from an aussie car. I do believe that the claim is correct
Long live the king

Are you missing a few beans up top or something????
worlds fastest production four door sedan means it was capable of the highest top speed n it doesn't need to to race any one to prove it it just needs to be tested independently and proven just like anyone elses car
