A loaded question really.
I said Ball sport, based on body contact and overal strength required at the top level. On a Cardio level, I'd say they'd be even. I've heard comments about two NRL/AFL players hitting each other at speed being the same as a car crash at 80+ KPH....... so what would a car crash at 160+ be equal to in AFL/NRL terms?

I have never raced a car but I imagine it is very exhausting. I used to ride a motorbike and after a long run of flat out riding I would come home drained and just go to sleep.
Endurance racing must be dreadful As for AFL I don't know much about ladies sports :P |

I think Gary Ablett would be fit enough to race a car,
does anyone think Russel Ingall would be able to play a game of afl? |

"Fitness" has 3 main components... Mental, Aerobic and Anaerobic.
Every sport or discipline has a combination of all of these, just in different ratios at different times. The reality is its very difficult to compare totally dissimilar sports without looking at each aspect in isolation..... Motor-racing and AFL couldn't be further apart and "athletes" from both are nearly impossible to compare without testing them on identical activities....

Still, a thought should also be considered for the fitness of the couch viewer, and the state of this solitary couch creature at the end of watching a full programme of AFL or V8 super car. |

Fair dinkum, Motorsort isnt a walk in the park, they do require a fair bit of conditioning, but compared to AFL midfielder, they arent at the same level.
dont see many v8 drivers pull up with a hamstring or a knee, they generally have a longer shelf life than a footballer (look at Dicky J) and the only contact they make is with a shell and roll cage around them... I reckon racing in a canoe would be more enduring than a v8SC driver. :thebirds:

There's no denying that it would be very physically demanding driving a v8sc, but i think the hardest would have to be AFL, drivers dont get smacked about anywhere near the lever of a pro footballer, drivers also dont get knocked out weekly, there is at least one footy player hurt badly everyweek

even children understand humour.
nobody could seriously think that I was arguing that all AFL players are wife bashers? in future, if any of my arguements is that ludicrous please consider it jest.

AFL Is not as taxing overall as Motor sport is at endurance levels is. How long does an AFL game last and how long does a Enduro run? how many brakes to AFL players get and for how long? same question for Enduro drivers. |

Bigamist! Where was my wedding invite? :P
As for the thread, I think over a 3hr period with all the breaks the AFL guys get. I would say V8 driving is more exertive.

But here is the clincher, any sport that Paul Morris can compete in can't be all that taxing. |

to do that he would need to condition different muscles in his arms, neck etc. etc. etc. i am sure if he put in the effort, he would give it a good shot just like the top level drivers would be able to run out an afl game with the right training as has been alluded to, the top level of any sport (within reason - some activities are considered sports) are all played by great athletes. each group of athletes have strengths and weaknesses that others do not have the 89 grand final was a great example, but so was bathurst 00, 92, 94, 96 and many others - but for different reasons the fact is though, if the drivers were not at their peak fitness level, they could not concentrate long enough to keep it on the road, in the dry, let alone the bathurst's i mentioned |

Bathurst 1987 Group A's when it was pouring down rain, rest my case of Drivers being the more endurance and fitness to the extreme!
I'd like to see any AFL player EVER do what those guys did |
