Sounds about right to me. 2.8L with no power, but in the DMC-12 it has a great sound. I believe the exhaust and engine sounds on BTTF to resemble the actual car, not foley sounds from a V8.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vM2psKlvT0 these cars were awesome, just gotta love the engineering that went into it, can't wait till pat has got his one back from the states at the end of next year ;)

Here's a few pictures I have collected over the years, there were some really advanced things going on when DeLorean went bust, they were working on a twin turbo version which was said to be as grunty as a twin turbo porsche

the motor is actually the same motor as a Volvo 264, you can find them easily enough in wreckers, a common mod for deloreans is to put a vortech style blower on the motor for extra grunt

Nice photo's, but I still think they look too high in the front end. The front looks a little understated to what is otherwise a nice looking car. Infact, I think the pathetic front end on it ruins the rest of the car.

Also, notice on the RHS guard in the last photo there are dents on the wheel arch?

We all know Deloreans they were built in Ireland. Hey? John Delorean got funding from the british gov to build the cars in Belfast. As Northern Ireland had so much trouble with civil unrest, John Delorean, fronted to the Brit gov saying he could help the cathloics and prodestants get along, by giving them all a coman intrest... Building cars. It worked for a while, but I think John had his fingers in other pie's and kept runing out of money, which he had to keep fronting to the brit goverment for more. He eventualy fled Ireland and the UK, and had been investagated by the FBI etc.

Ummm, no they didn't. The cars were bog stock (except time travel equipment)

I'd love a Delorean but it would need a way better motor. Dodge Charger is just US muscle. Bullett was proof of that.

I’d rather have a Renault Alpine. Twin turbo PRV V6, better handling, more pedigree and comparable to a Porsche 911

"Although only between 8,000 and 9,000 of these cars were ever produced in the 80s, the Back to the Future set got six for filming.

While shooting the first movie, these six were used and made to look like they were meant for time travel, but were otherwise left intact. However, during the making of the second and third sequels to the movie, the DeLorean cars were used, but producers replaced the engines that were in the cars. These DeLorean cars had Porsche engines to give them more power for the film shoots".

I still call BS.

What would the point of replacing the motor with one out of a Porsche? These cars didn't go quick, 88mph isn't fast!!

But how does one go about finding these rare vehicles??
Here is some pics I took today of my mates 69 big block charger, he bought it in from the states last year.
It started life as a 69 Charger SE with a 383, it is now a RT 44o clone with a worked 440 in it.

It was nice and straight but when it arrived and was inspected for a RWC there was some rust in the floors and some in the inner rear 1/4's.

Pete from Stylerod in Croydon made new inner 1/4's for it, and new floor sections and 1/4's were purchased over the shelf from Elko in Croydon.

It is one tough car !

There is definitely another one getting around in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. I've seen it twice, once recently.

The 68-70 body style of Chargers were my favorite. I owned a 1968 Charger. It was my first car.

The Charger in the Bullitt chase scene is a 1968 Charger. The Dukes of Hazzard one was a 1969. The Dukes of Hazzard movie is an abomination to those of us that were fans of the TV show. It was really smutted up and the wholesome feel was completely absent.

The car in Vanishing Point was a Dodge Challenger, not a Charger. Very different body styles, different platforms and sizes.

I wonder if the Porsche engines in Deloreans for BTTF is embellishment? You can find reports where the engine in Max's black Interceptor was a Pontiac 455 engine, and we know that's not true. I'm going to look into this some more because there would have been no reason to bother with the change since the speed shots were nothing that were not possible with just filming technique. I'm not saying the swap fact is impossible, its just not practical with what I know about film making, and cars.

Delorreans around here sell for $15,000 - $25,000 USD.

Steve,
Max's coupe has only ever had a 351C. Only copies have other alternatives.

Yeah my mate uses this almost as a daily driver, these photos were taken on Saturday in Bayswater, but there is another one a 1968 model that has the round tail lights getting around Croydon area.

They must have got another one at Birdwood then, because I was there in January '09, and I saw a Delorean.

They DIDN'T have a Falcon XA-XC Coupe (in fact don't recall seeing a sedan either), which I was very disappointed about. Top place though. The did have an XY GT.

Lots of Holdens though - but it is sponsored by them so that's understandable.
