Ok, finished building my car. Just a standard TT 01. After taking it out for a drive, I'm hungry for more speed already. Can't wait til I get my tax return hahaha. Might go for a brushless set up!

A couple of pics on the dinner table just after completion:

And a couple of pics post first-run, taking shelter in my wardrobe:

Interested to see pics of other cars out there.

Looks tops M&M.
Nice and low too!

I notice the body posts are high on these cars, is there any reason/advantage from this?
I've got a few new rims/tyres coming shortly, so I'll post some photos then.

A few Q's if anyone can help.

How hard are these tyres to fit and glue?
What type of glue should I use?

Cheers

Thanks, I'm loving it!!

The instructions said to glue the rubber onto the rims using modelling plastic cement, but I just put the rubbers on without glue. I've taken it out twice now and they're still on nice and tight, so I don't think gluing is necessary unless you're gonna do some drift work or some major circuit racing. Tyres slip on to the rims pretty easily and secure themselves into place.

Not a drama, I have a few sets on the way, so I'll see how I go.
I too am only just starting out. Just adjusted everything up then so I should be ready to run this weekend.

Thanks.

Here's the first set I scored. $15 with good rubber. Few marks, but they'll do for me!

Taking it out for a spin this weekend. Am looking forward to it.
Next thing on the list... A Ute Body. Sick of pulling the cover on and off just to start it!

Cheers

I wouldnt worry too much about tyres peeling off if you're running the standard silver motor (time to get into the lingo lol... this motor is called a 540 and also referred to as a johnson or a mabuchi depending on maker.. as some useless trivia they're actually the same motor you'll find in most cordless drills).

If the thirst for more POWA gets the better of you (it always does) then you might find the rims slip in the tyre or it comes off the bead.

In the offroad world, our tyres are big and squishy... the brushless i run in my electrics and the nitro monster truck has enough rpm to "balloon" the tyres to 2 or 3 times their original diameter.. just to give you an idea of the power you will be dealing with eventually

(pic for demonstration

BTW on the back of that motor, you will notice an ollite bushing that surrounds the shaft. Put a few drops of light machine oil on it and leave it to soak into the ollite... repeat this process every few runs, it will give you more rpm and the bushing will last longer.

Quote:

They come like that out of the pack, because of the array of bodies you can fit onto the chassis (i.e. a hummer body need longer body posts).

No harm cutting them to your desired length.'

a) not hard. Ill post some links for you lot.
b) Cynoacrolte glue!! (CA for short). Get it at a hobby shop. Its amazing stuff... sets almost instantly and has a hold like you wouldnt believe.

You did the right thing spending a bit more STK-XR8. It cost me double when I first started rc.
After reading this and seeing the vids I am now tempted to get one. I already run electric helis and have 3 chargers and a dozen batterys. mmmmm. PVC pipe you say..mmm

Dont be cheap SP lol. Its like 20 bucks for a set of proper drift tyres which will be waaaayyy better than some PVC pipe.

Are there many "Nitro" drifters out there?
We've got the perfect surface for it at work, and I've only got a nitro!

Yeah, I've checked out a few websites. Am looking at an F-150 body, but I'd love an XR8 Ute. Haven't managed to track one down yet.

Love the Flareside look.

Or there's this one too-

I could go the Venom

Can't go past the Flareside F150 though!

Cheers

As far as Im aware Darran there arent any XR8 body shells. No AU ute shells either :(

That flareside does look nice. My pick would be an XY GT shell though. Or the HPI GT350 mustang body shell.

There are people who do mate and they go alright but the only thing you gotta watch out for is not getting enough airflow and the engine getting too hot. As with a normal car too hot = big bang. But with a nitro car its alot easier to go bang than a normal car.

Where is a good place to buy bodies online? or a place that does sell them, that has a big range, pre painted... ?

I did a terrible job painting mine... First time i hit something, all the paint flaked... mind you, it was a big hit (almost full throttle into a wheel of a stationary car... Jammed right under the wheel, had to move the car to get it back out!)

Darran, those ute bodies look sweet... Wouldnt mind of those myself

Here's where I was looking. Doubt if they come painted though.

Check out some of the RC Forums too. Might score a cheap second hand one.
Or Ebay- http://www.rchobbies.com.au/store/in...df155075fc15a0

Here's some other bodies on Ebay. Some of these come pre-painted.

Brushed motors and Ni-MH's... stop living in the past!
Invest in a good brushless setup, with li-po's, and you will never go back. Increase in efficiency, and the weight reduction of the li-po's. People are way too scared about these batteries, with stories of them blowing up, but that's only from abuse and mis-treatment. After all, the same technology is in your mobile phone.
I used to be a nitro man through and through, but my Hyper 7 buggy is getting converted over to a brushless setup.

It's expensive though... $300+ for motor/esc, $150 for a good charger, $80+ for batteries.

Li-Po Batteries are awesome, they have more grunt, last longer, and give much better performance as they are so much lighter... But, are they legal in comps yet? Im not certain tracks allow them just yet... They are due to be in the next lot of regulations, but im not sure yet?

Anyway, once they are, they will be awesome! For those just having fun in the street... the longer run time is the big advantage..

No, lipos are not legal (AARMC or whatver they called.. based on ROAR rules from the states).

Some clubs are allowing lipos at club level racing, but no big meets. Prob not a bad thing, with that kind of power the onroaders will be pushing the gear so hard, to the point of failure, then give the technology a bad name.

Just like they did with brushless for so long. I mean seriously... they were shattering the bonded magnet on the rotor, so the companies moved to sintered rotors... with ESC's that have 1,000,000 million different cutoffs built into them...

8000mah lipo + brushless = 20 minute offroad electric finals being tested in the states.

PS anyone looking to get into brushless but dont have racing ambitions, check out the Mamba Max system from the states. Ive ordered a few for people and they come in at about $300 AUD landed (can get for $360ish locally). They are NOT race legal as they use sensorless technology.

7700kv @ 7.2v = 55,440 RPM or get the 5700kv motor and you can run on 12 cells. 5700kv @ 14.4v = 82,080 RPM.

Torque is theoretically unlimited

I swear you've never seen an RC pull its front wheels up like 2wd trucks/buggies do with these motors

www.starluckrc.com has them not badly priced. I picked up the Mamba Max ESC, a motor for my 1/8th buggy (540C-7XL), and the pinion gear for $260 landed.

man i love xy's and i think that thing looks terrible, it would be mad to get a f6 typhoon ute or something. i was thinking of selling mine but might take it out and try to drift.

mine is a WRX shell, 4x4, v2002 or something, not sure what size motor, id say there pretty common.

a few pics of it:

a few qusetions...
will this be ok to use for drifting, is it just tyres and skill involved or is there more to it

Darran, you can get AU and BA V8Supercar shells as well as BA XR8 Ute. I used to get mine at The Hobby Man on McRae Street Dandenong. Great little shop, could spend a fortune there, lol!!
