Back in the early 80's I used to help out on a farm in Kulin WA and they had/have a 1958 Austin Gipsy 4x4 soft top, it was constant 4x4 and had spine crushing rubber suspension, Austin shipped them out to Aus as a CKD pack and they were assembled locally, they bought there's through an agent in Kellerberrin and still had the wooden packing case it came in in the back of a shed the last time I was there in 85', typical old cocky not letting anything go to waste….. I did deviate from the Landcruiser’s once though and bought a 73’ G60 Patrol, that was a handful but still fun to drive…..

The Datsun Patrol had a 3sp box I believe but the FJ Toyota a 4sp I believe. Maybe they both used the same box like Chev K20 4x4 and Ford F100 4x4 did. |

Austin Champ. My uncle got his HR Holden bogged on a muddy road, my dad got his HD Holden bogged trying to tow him out. Along came a friend of the old man with his Austin and he pulled them both out at once.
