Being unemployed is the worst ever. Anyone who ever thinks it would be nice to sit around all day for a few months is badly mistaken. You get screwed around by all the employment agencies and nearly all the people where you go for interviews are just pricks wasting your time. In the first 2 weeks, I was on the internet all day looking for jobs and signing up to agencies, got sick of waiting so did volountary work, got sick of still having NO money (was living off last tax return), so resorted to putting flyers on cars at the citys biggest car park. Read along the lines of 100% drug free and I think I put try anything and my qualifications on there aswell. Did about 200 one day and 75 the next. got ONE (1) phone call, again, wasting time. Moved onto the most fun job (panel beating) but the biggest of a boss Ive ever had, worked there for like 2 weeks then fell *** backwards into a detailing job, that dried up, put a work wanted ad in the paper and voila, I reckon ill be here till I retire. Moral: It really is a bad feeling being jobless, knowing that you've got no reason at all to wake up in the morning or go to bed at night, is quite depressing, for me anyway, and going to interviews that you and the person interviewing know that you arent gonna get is really tedious. People who expect government handouts are scum, unless you're on the verge of death, Dont expect any help from anyone else, you put yourself there, you get yourself out.

I will note that when I was unemployed, I was also volunteering...

The manager of the place said I was the best volunteer they had ever had...

While I find that flattering, I got along well with her, whereas other volunteers were not as open minded as I when it came to speaking dirty or having fun.

As I tell my mother, rather than be bothered with all the wrong things that everybody else does, just make sure you do the right thing...

IM currently unemployed now for around 2 months.

More or less its holidays, its my first break from work in over 2 and a half years straight, also self funded and a killer tax return made it even easier.

Will be going back to work in the next fortnight though, I have a few ambitions and wanna trade up to a new car while doing my project up.

There's work out there if anyone wants it though, I dont know how people can stay unemployed for so long, with the poor amount the dole gives It might be enough to survive on, but not live.

Being a ticketed tradesman is the next best thing to job security though, just cant get enough of them.

I call a spade a spade, and I will take things (when written) literally. I won't repent my comments, and stand by them to the last.

I work my butt off to get ahead in life, and I take exception to sponges that chose not to, and worse - sponges that admit to doing it and call me a silly for supporting their no hoping lifestyle.

I've been working for over 20 years, from commercial cleaning, to commercial fishing, to operational management and now logistics.

I had 6 months off two years ago - SELF FUNDED, no hand outs, and no expectation by me for any. I needed a spell due to burn out from a management role, and it was either take a break, or have a nervous breakdown. Simple as that.

I believe there should be a safety net for people that need it, for people that require the support to continue existing. Not handouts to maintain a no hoping lifestyle funded by us workers.

Craigsmoddedef should be held accountable for his choices, and no allowances for his 'individuality' should be made. To put it nicely - he's a bum.

lol, yeah when I was doing engineering we were to busy doing work to do anything else....well except make fun of the arts students (had some of my uni mates worried when I made a few comments when they left the lecture theatre).

Anywho

I took was out of work for four months in 2004 by choice (during a semester at uni). I did it because of the 42 hours of contact hours I had at uni on top of the all the hours I had to do at home. As I had saved a good amount of money during Uni holdays I managed my funds till after exams. Then I got a job a within a week.

I dont know why but I'm lucky when it comes to finding jobs. I have never been on the dole and don't ever wanna be. Also if I had to sit at home all day I would probably go insane so thats another reason why I go to work....kills boredom during the day.

If you check out some of "craigosmoddedEF"'s older posts you can see things hes bought and talked about. Now I know how much people on the dole get, and if he has enough money to buy a $1500 twin turbo setup then he is either:

A) Full of sh^t and has a job.
B) Really good at saving pennies (yet drinks beer everyday too)
C) Doing 'something else' whilst on the dole.

What are you drinking? Metho? Raking in the tax dollars?? Haha must be a pretty small rake for $250 a fortnight or whatever it is. Last time i tried to get on the dole (10 years ago) it was that bloody hard i just gave up and got a job.

Found the exact same thing while doing my eng/sci double degree, people are friendly and are willing to help each other out, especially when it came to doing projects/assignments and coursework. I too found more tossers/bi%$#es when doing my arts subjects. The only saving grace was the chicks doing those subjects were smoking hot, if only they did more eng subjects!

Uni aint for everybody, my youngest sister hated uni but loves tafe, she too found the people in her uni course to focused on looks and/or being in the "in" crowd. She was doing an commerce degree (majoring in accounting).

Cash is your friend. Either that or try to do things for other goods or services that you need. Barter system.

I haven't been unemployed myself, but a friend of mine was unemployed for a while. He ended up going around to trash and treasures, finding things and then selling them on eBay. He made some good money some weeks. He eventually went out and got a job which he still has and loves.

Hah. Uni "In Crowd." I did IT, there was no such thing in our course. Not many women either. :(

i was unemployed for 6 months after school.
i had applied for an apprenticeship, didnt get it, went on dole for 4 months, applied for the same apprenticeship, got it.
the dole sucks, handing out resume's sucks.

im going to be unemployed again for a few months as of november..
im quiting my job. cant wait!

i have been working casual since fifteen n i have been full time for a year n a half now n i have always wanted to not work. but get money lol. works boring as but i have never really had a long time off work. but i love everyday i get off. but i guess if i didn;t have a job i would want one cos i would get bored at home after a while.

Hmmm The only time I was technically not working was when I was backpacking half the globe a few years ago lol...

Mum and dad gave me a swift kick up the bum at 14 and 9 months and demanded I work and start paying my way.

By 16 I was making a tidy sum, in yr 10 I had a payslip showing 61hrs, while still going to school 5 days... I think that week I made more than the Area manager haaaa...

I think there are many "Job Snobs".. a phrase the late and great Stan Zemanic used on many an occasion.... people waiting for that perfect job to arrive.

I wouldn't be able to look at myself in a mirror if I was out of work for any length of time... If it was a choice between the dole and getting $30 a week more cleaning toilets I would be making the extra $30....

When I have kids, I will be in a far better financial situation than my migrant parents were ever in at my birth... and you bet ya, when my kids are 14 and 9 months they will be getting the same swift kick up the rear end.....

Will do them a world of good, like it did me ;)

I worked at woolies for 3 years and left that to move here to Cairns from the Central Coast NSW. I was unemployed for 2 days between getting here and starting the new job as a TA at a air con company.
I did that for about 2 and half years then got myself an apprenticeship as a refridgeration mechanic, it lasted for about a year and then i was sacked for not meeting "apprenticeship guidelines".
I wasnt happy, i was sent out to jobs by myself and in charge of a T.A, another apprentice who was as dumb as dog sh!t and no tradesman in sight.

I was unemployed for 2 weeks until i got my apprenticeship as a panel beater.
I've got the best job and work with a great bunch of people, i wake up every mornig happy that i have a job i enjoy.

Unemployed gets pretty tough .Had a few difficult times.
But if your in the geelong area and pretty handy with a hammer i could give you a few days work every now and then labouring(cash money ) . Not great but it all helps . Anyway if your intersested shoot me a pm.

I left the Air Force (as a fully qualified mechanical engineer with instructing experience) at the end of 2003, but I still had leave (holidays) until mid Feb 2004. I thought in that time I would be able to secure a job.
Well, no I didn't. I moved back home to Tassie and I could even get a job picking apples or pulling up carrots.

I ended up in April 2004 getting a job at a car yard selling cars (both new and used). Even though I loved cars and knew a lot about them, it didn''t really mean a whole lot. You needed to be a salesman (person), I wasn't.

To answer the question though, I had a few months at the start of 2004, a couple at the end and then a couple of months spread out over the next couple of years unemployed.

Never through that time I recieved benifets, mainly I think I felt ashamed or guilty. I'd been working since I was just over 15 and I dindn't really want to rely on anyone elses help. I had applied, but by the time I'd been approved for anything, I'd gotten another job.

A leech is a rather useless creature that survives off other animals, thus in this case it's the perfect word of choice.

Dole bludgers are spawned much like a byproduct. And they're the least useful byproduct out there.

I have used the dole before.... when I moved to kerang from Canberra there was not a lot of work... after about 5 - 6 weeks I got a job.
Other then that I have always worked had a job , Moved here where I am now on the Monday started work on the Wednesday, not bad as I only came here for 5 days holiday (that was 8 years ago)
