I cannot see what the problem is in disclosing your location when most of the info is already readily available in this very small electronic world we live in.......................even if you move to W.A...................

(This is not a witch hunt on you BPXR6T but just a sample of what is out there)

You are probably at more risk from someone connected to the 3 telling someone..... You will find that many crimes committed, are from someone close to you (many times without realising their talk is creating such problems) and it is what many refer to as an inside job.
If someone wants your car(s), they will follow you home from some auto activity etc. They will always take the easier pickings.

I like to see where everyone is from however, this Forum is about choice. We don't want to start forcing people to identify themselves to be members etc. Some people are never identified while others are very public and well known. Both types are equally valuable members.

One of the great things that has made the AFF a popular site, is the fact that no one is pressured and the rules are just there to keep it a civil, respectable, safe place to spend time.

That is a whole separate issue and if I would have used a PO Box or a mates address. We have 2 PO Boxes in separate towns for that reason. There are ways around it. We also need to be careful what we tell people when we are buying from strangers.

Truly sorry about the car and a terrible lesson learned. The Forum could have got the sellers IP address for the Police..........

I am not advocating your exact location be revealed. Just the state you reside in

I agree - to not want to post the State is a bit paranoid but as I stated, we respect peoples right to privacy.

I’ve had a couple of cars stolen so I understand why some people are cautious.

One was taken from the street outside the restaurant we were eating at one night. We heard it start up and ran for the door but it was already on the move. I got a good look at the driver’s face but the next time I saw the car it was as a burnt out shell. It was an opportunist theft.

The other was stolen from my garage which is located down the back of my property with only a front street entrance. It was a car I only drove about once every six months or so and it was taken 5 days after I last drove it. The Police told me I was most likely followed home and the thief would have checked out the place for a few days before taking it. It was stolen while I was at work and no-one was home. After six weeks I got the car back. It was crashed during a Police chase after an armed holdup and the 2 occupants escaped on foot. The car was written off and I bought back the wreck and rebuilt it.

For the next 10 years I was too frighten of losing my cars and stopped driving them. Then I started selling them because I never drove them. Then I started to drive some that I couldn’t part with but would drive around and around the block before driving them into my yard. Then I realised what a waste and how paranoid I’d become.

Today I drive them without a care, I park them out the front of the house when I need too and they sometimes sit there all day. All the neighbours, family and friends known of them as do many people in area I live. I use servos and go to shops.

I love the cars and if someone is going to take them so be it. My cars are not an investment, I have them because I love them and I’ve learnt from experience it’s no use having them if I can’t drive them.

It’s just a s@#t there are so many lowlifes in the world that would take what is obviously someone else’s pride and joy.

A Gaela said its paroniod not to disclose which state you are in.

If you have a collectable (which includes me) you have more to worry about from an inside job at your state Registration Authority or your Insurer than an opportunist thief. If you have a relatively easy car to steal (usually older models) there are measures you can take to prevent it going very far e.g. fuel cut off valve. That said, simply driving your car anywhere means your number plate is on display and this combined with the electronic age we live in means your a target whether we like it or not. One example in this thread shows how easy it is for someone to " give themself up", albeit unintentionally.

However, the majority of people on here don't have a collectable, and as seen in this thread, some are not even aware you can provide your Location or missed it when setting up their profile.

No need to close the thread, the discussion is just gaining momentum

What Cheeses me off about the forum is the amount of Ford bashing that goes on here, and in the Pub the amount of Holden lovin' that goes on thought it was Ford Forums.
