ok so Ive got a BF V8 non XR ute.. I need to replace the rotors.. I can pay $60 for brand new stock ones.. and they work.. if I wanted slotted etc.. are they purely just for **** factor when it comes to everyday use? IE: unless I participate in track days is there really any point in upgrading ?
I do understand that with more power you need better braking power.. but again this would be in racing situations.. right? because the ute slows down perfectly fine from 175kph (thats where it cuts out) but I dont see myself racing everywhere I go.. opinions./advise would be appreciated.. insults will be returned. |

H.G I put it this way. Never skimp on tyres, brakes or suspension. They're the only things keeping you on the road. Racing or not, wouldn't you rather have better brakes than not?

Matt, can the factory front Brembo rotors be skimmed?
Apart from them potentially being warped/hotspotted, I've noticed a slight ridge has developed on the outer edges of the contact surface. I want to keep them as spares. Is skimming expensive and do you know/recommend anyone in Perth? Cheers.

Love ‘em! Changing pads is easy enough if you have the right tools, so swapping between Hawk ceramics for daily use and 2500s for track days is realistic. You’ll need a nail punch and brake pad spreader to make it easy though. If you end up with Hawk pads for daily use and Ferodo 2500 pads for track days then you’ll want to get one of these spreaders. A bit under $300 including postage, but you'll keep it for the rest of your life. I use mine on conventional two piston calipers as well. FYI - Once a year fluid flushes for std street cars and regular fluid flushes for any cars doing track days will maintain optimum performance from your brake fluid.
