it also had the alloy ford racing heads like the t series had not the iron gt40p heads. id say it was a left over t-series engine!

So did all XR's have GT40P heads? Was there a difference between the heads from Series 1 -3? Bigger valves etc?

Yes they all had GT40P heads, however, the 220kw Windsors got some massaging from Yella Terra.

Just noticed this post, what's that got to do with anything? The AFL1 is a Z9. The Z89A is a half length Z9 and is needed to clear the oil cooler.

Not this again lol. NO AU Utes had the 220kw engine. This has been well looked into, just ask b2tf.

What are you basing this misinformation on? The hand built plates stuck to the rocker covers perhaps? All 200kw engines have that from AU2 onwards, and the utes only ever got the 185 up to AU2 then 200kw. The sedans are the only true XRs which is why they got the 220 jobbie in AU3.

Still, I (and a lot of others) would be interested to see what you base your statement on.

How was it identified as a 220?

Not saying it is impossible, but what you have reported is very very unlikely, because the alloy headed 220 production stopped in early March 2001 (halfway through the T2 run), and the cast iron 220's in XR8's did not kick off until the second half of the year.

How an alloy headed 220 motor sat around for over three months and then finally found its way into an XR8 is beyond me, especially since the T2's had been getting cast iron headed engines for that whole time.

Possibly a T1 TS50 warranty engine that had been misplaced in the production line?

Daniel

Daniel there have been a few reports of alloy headed XR8's by a few people. Too many to dismiss and too few to say it was the norm.

Left over heads, warranty left overs and the like sounds the most plausible.

Fair enough, and i suppose this adds weight to what I was saying with respect to the same engine calibration being spread out across the whole 220kw engine run, and how in turn, some cast iron headed 220's have issues with pinging.

True, adding to that is the fact that in order for the cast heads to match the alloy's 220 they had to up the comp on the cast headed engines a fair whack too

While the heads may have been the "feature" difference, wouldn't tune, MAF callibration, TB etc all be different too (maybe not TB)?

That is sort of where I am going with this, I just cannot understand how Ford/Tickford would let it slip through the net. The MAF-Injector calibration (MAF Transfer) would be the same as would the TB, but the tune may or may not be.
