Really killing the GT when the new model comes is a no brainer

I have to agree with Fanboi, the current GT and the GT of the last 10 years doesn't have any real heritage, it was a car using a nameplate to sell vehicles, I am of the opinion the nameplate should never have been resurrected, should have been left in history where it was best served. The XR8 probably has more followers these days than the GT does.

I am 36yo and the GT nameplate means nothing to me but XR8 does.

I'm more upset about the demise of the F6.

I’m more interested to know if the information disclosed in the August 13 event will be allowed to go public, or whether it’s going to be another NDA only event? (like the last one was)

I can agree there, the GT or the R-Spec nameplates mean nothing to me … however GTR nameplate, well that’s a whole nother story

I wonder how much cheaper a Miami powered XR8 would be?

Would they be brave enough to keep up to 335kw (really circa 375kw) with povo brakes?

So lets leave all the running gear and 315kw, lose the starter button, use an XR6 spoiler, front and rear bars. Lets leave the standard bonnet on it too. How much cheaper is that than a GS?

Oh, it is a GS......................without a starter button...................

If it is true, it is just stupid.......................

If they do that, I will lose all respect for the brand, I will have backed the wrong horse, I know the other mob would not do that.

and if you look deeper than whatever GT is running you would find that an XR8 has too, like an XR6T as well as the F6. Guess they all have racing pedigree now.

Dont take the TROLL bait.
This is not a GT v XR8 debate. Dont go down that path. it leads to the dark side. lol
The XR8 was a good package that deserves some respect.

The point here is what will happen to GT as a product with the final falcon release next year with the final model release.

If they do bring back the XR8, I hope they do it as the 315kw and a XR8 Sprint with 335kw. Now I bet you would get some people line up for a new XR8 Sprint.

And I'm a 37yo and grew up in the GT's, was either picked up from school or was in someones way when they where all tuning them or ten of allsorts sitting outside my house... I can put my balls on it that everyone who knows xr8 knows GT and which one has more pedigree. I can't believe this has been said on a Ford site?? thats just like saying I don't know GTS but know SS...

no need for that? As I said allsorts outside my place way back when, some 360 and some 265 but the GT was always the hero and if you think a xr8 has any stable ground or selling point over a GT you may need to look at the spark it's missing and all 8 arn't on...

Then why hasn't it been selling Kayos?, this is my point, for all the bleating about heritage and pedigree it's dieing a slow death that is not befitting of the original GT nameplate. I never said the XR8 has more pedigree over the GT, not everything is about racing, what about affordability vs performance and the XR series did this very well, Ford killed off the XR8 hoping it would increase FPV V8 sales and I think that was a failure.

Its pretty obvious what Fords plans are...

I got shot down a year ago when I said the FPV factory would go.... (I was right).
I then got shot down when I said GT-E and other products would go... (I was right again).

Therefore I'm not going to suggest FPV or the GT brand is going, simply because I'm not interested in getting shot down.

Anyone who has any idea about business and or the industry will know what the outcome will be. If you have no business case then how can you support a product? Ford will do what they have to make sure they can support a business case until 2016. That does not include building boutique models or models where they sell 300 units a year. Notice how Ford didn't want to give us any figures on FPV for 2012? Simply because it would only fuel the fire.

As for what they do give is no doubt it will be pretty special (for those of us who actually want "the last". For me Ill be happy with either an XR8 or GT and I plan to put my money where my mouth is (as I have done for years).

Russell and I are attending with 3 other chosen AFF Members and that would say to me that the information could hardly be kept quiet. We are understanding that we will be able to report back that very evening and there have been no indications of any cloak and dagger cover ups. Give Ford a chance to tell us what they want to say and even if there is an embargo, I would assume it will be for a short period of hours allowing them to make a Press release perhaps.

If Ford are serious about building a new XR8, then they should build and develop its own N/A engine . Building a XR8 with GT parts (engine/gearbox etc) is my eyes is a slap in the face of all GT owners that have supported Ford/FPV who have handed over put their hard earned cash. The supercharged miami engine was specifical build for the GT and putting this engine into any other car that doesnt carry the GT badge is like giving your own kid to another family.

I rather see Ford drop the V8 than use the Miami engine out of the GT.

Can we please keep the thread civil and calm. We understand emotions are running high but this is not about getting rid of cars we love - it is about more than that. The world economy, Australia's economy, the Green push, Politics etc. Many things are contributing.

I am looking forward to hearing what other FORD vehicles will be available in the future and that will give us lots to look forward to.

See this is just ******** selfish talk. As I have stated Ford will make the best of what they have. I would much rather a 335 XR8 then a 302 XR8!

I am passionate about Ford and FPV but I don't live in a world where there's no change. One day the dream had to end, we are just lucky we got to experience part of it.

Selfish or not, thats how I feel.

I am happy for you if you are prepared to buy an overpriced XR8 with GT running gear. I would rather buy a 2013 model GT.

The only thing I am proud of Ford at the moment is that Ford choose to retire the falcon name.

Excluding terri, the whole range of aus built hasn't been selling. In my opinion it hasn't sold due to homeland or someone not marketing the FG and its possibilities... everything else gets box time etc etc!! I didn't bring up racing, xr is entry level just like gs but GT we all know what that is just like in the states.
I believe XR8 was dropped due to the fact that the 315sc 335sc motors had been FPV only or they only wanted to carry something less spec for the xr8 owners, didn't work, the natural *** v8 was no long available, not like ford dropped the v8 before hey..... they don't learn and only thanks to mr Polites for having the true blood to turn an operation into a empire did anything come to where we are today, but now Ford is back to spoil our run just like the "minister of transport" did back in the day.
