To be honest, the past few days i've been thinking long and hard about my next car purchase. For the price i'm looking at spending, it's opened up a lot of other options for me.

If i could buy a brand new Jaguar for same price as the new HSV, i'd have to go the Jag. There aren't many Jags in my area, and the GTS really does just look like the other HSVs.

Initially i was going to opt for an FPV or HSV, but having a quick look on carsales, i could even get a lowish km Euro for the budget i have. Even an R35 GTR isn't out of range, although getting a two door past the wife might take some doing... Especially while the youngest is still in a baby seat for a few more years.

Having said all that, i would prefer something new with warranty, but i'll see what happens. Come the time for a new car, i'll probably go the GT. The bang for buck value is fantastic, and it'll mean i keep about 40k in my bank.

I'll be keeping my options open though.

I have nothing against Holdens, have happily owned 3 in the past but the VFs look terrible. Somebody crashed a Cruze into the front and back of them.

Sounds odd, but i actually don't mind the rear end of the HSV range... I suppose it just goes to show how we're all different. I didn't like it at first, but it's grown on me!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If anyone doesn't like the opinion of another user please pass on directing comments at each other and skip to the next post. The whole blue vs red thing is always going to bring out polarized opinions. And thats what discussion is all about.

ANYWAY...IMHO i dislike the front and rear design of the VF and the GTS doesn't look too bad considering what it has to work with. Referring to the base car VE ticked the boxes, hard act to follow LOOKS wise, VF drivetrain/tech/interior in VE design would be one helluva nice car.

Seen my first new Vf GTS in white today, even with beer goggles I dont think I would take one home. They look worse up close. Wouldn't mind thrashing one just to see how good they go thou. Horses for courses I suppose.

Those tail lights I'm not quite sold on, yet. Lately I've been (not so) quietly really liking the SS/SSV's though.

HSVs look absolutely terrible to my eyes.

The ones getting around with bonnet scoops, too many wings and running lights are plain awful IMO, so tacky that I don't care how they perform as I wouldn't want to be seen in it. FPVs (in quality colours, not the pastels) just look so much better.

Last HSV I would buy is the VE Clubsport - thought the first version was (and still is) a great looking car, and the VY Clubsport before it also was pretty good if only from some angles.

A friend brought one in black, it looks really plain and just nothing special really, the back looks better than the front probably because In black the g-string blends in, we walked up to it thinking it was a ss not until we saw the badge did we know what it was, even the engine looked underwhelming, very quiet too. Just my opinion..........

N.Z. Autocar tested the VF GTS a while back and got a best 0-100 of 4.15 seconds !!, quicker than a BMW M5 or Mercedes-benz E63 AMG.

For some strange reason i'm coming around to liking the VF GTS's looks

I prefer the look the Gen F GTS compared to the E series GTS but I could only buy one in maybe 2 colours, black or the almost VK Grp A blue colour.

In all fairness to Holden, how much faster would it have to be for people to say Great car.We all know how hard it is to launch these heavy barges off the line with that kind of power.I say great effort & if it isn't as fast as the 335 GT in the acceleration departments, well it smothers it in the hi tech equipment.

I dont know? 18 months ago with the launch of the RSpec (Fastest AU Production car) to many on the Dark side, it suddenly was all about handling. What ..... has it done a complete 360 and is now just about power again?

Of course they have produced something that is more tech advanced and quicker than a GT. The VF is, after all, the new kid on the block while FG is the old model. That is the way it works.

AND ...... no matter how wonderfully orgasimic it might be ..... it still does not mean that everyone NEEDS to like it. Looks are subjective, not everyone is into techy stuff and how quick it maybe is not on everyone's priority list.

I am not a fan and do not need to be. In all fairness .... yes ..... they have done a good job to appease many ...... but I do not NEED to like it at all. That is the way it is so some just need to accept this.

I am also a fan of the VF HSV's. I I think the rear looks conservative yet aggressive which is to my liking. Importantly there is a point of difference btw the rear of a HSV and the regular commodore range. Sadly this has not been the case with FPV. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I bleed blue. But I'm happy to admit when I see something I like.

This past week I decided to spot out ford GTs and VF GTSs. I'll tell you now....the GTs had far more presence and prestige for a performance sedan. The hsvs just look like another weird imported Asian car that often looks fugly. It also doesn't stand out much between the ss models!(to the minority trained eye maybe)

There's just simply zero chances I'd lay down 40k extra for something that's fast but doesn't look great to most people...or stand out as iconic.
EVERY GT that goes past stands out.

IMHO

The gts is statistically impressive and is performance wise, but I just can't accept the looks, just not my cup of tea. To me the exterior of the fg has aged really well considering how long it has been out. Also there is not much you can do to the gts to improve the looks as it sits nicely, and the wheels are nice. Just my opinion though.

Kiwi dollar has risen a full 20% against the Aussie since March 2013 yet Holden are still trying to ream Kiwi's based on an exchange rate that's fuindamentally changed.

Blatant price gouging in my opinion.

The Prussian steel colour looks good on the GTS. It's a darker silver/blue type colour.

If I had this kind of money available to buy a car (100K), I would comfortably choose a VF GTS, alas a FH XR8 is likely all my budget will extend to (fingers crossed will still be a very good car).

I saw a VF GTS in the flesh.. It looks great except for the yellow brake calipers.

It was an all black car with these yellow things standing out.. Just need a bit more subtle colour on the brakes. just looked silly.

Saw a FG r Spec GT also the other day, yes the red highlights look tacky but the car turned my head. wasnt too bad and growing on me.

No offence but not the best shot of the Clubby because all that does is show how bloody good looking the GT Falcon is. Geez they are ageing well & yes I am bias.....
