Its called thermal dynamics. Years ago, sitting around a fire pit the drunken bet was (i knew i would win this, so a safe bet) what would happen if i chucked a capped plastic bottle of water on the fire. My mate was adimant it would melt the plastic straight up. I won the bet. The fire just heated to water inside the bottle. Well untill we forgot about it and the superheated water decided the plastic was no match and more or less exploded. Point being i won the bet.

Ok, so I have just researched this, and the answer seems to be widely accepted.. "When it boils, steam is forced down a tube (sometimes concealed in the handle) to a bimetal strip in the switch that trips it off. That's why the lid has to be closed." Wow, so now I (we) know. Geez I hate getting up early not being able to sleep in ![]()

…YT is seemingly not full of tutorials on how to create and apply “barn dust”? It’s obviously a thriving market, this service.

Why is it the baby boomers are so intercourse-ing so gullible? My parents fridge stopped working and we are waiting for the technician to arrive. My mother who is extremely unwilling to spend money believes she found the answer on the internet and showed me a video. As soon as I heard the opening line "technicians will hate me for this" I knew it was bullpoo. But try telling that to her!

Pretty sure that means broken broken. Then its a gamble, pay an appliance guy to fix it at probably close to replacement cost, pay the guy to tell you it needs to be replaced. Or go somewhere that does delivery and desposal and get a new one.

Why is it that FWD cars rev higher than a RWD car at highway speeds?
Gone from driving my little Mazda2 to 380 VRX, both 5sp manual, both rev at around 3k at 110k/hr. A 4wd in 4H doesnt need 3k revs to drive the front wheels, why does a FWD? |

Alternator shield off a 2001 Alfa Romeo. It deflects any power steering fluid away from the alternator.
I doubt this device was subject to any worldwide patent. But you wonder why Ford couldn’t do something similar to save the alternators of Intech and Barra sixes. |

Makes it easy. Shoes off, clean socks and stand on the bed. Just dont tip the diffuser as thats where the dead insects are. Bin those, and clean the diffuser with a wet paper towel then dry with a dry paper towel, good as new with a new lamp or 2 in the fitting.

…Maybe this is commonly offered now but I’m a dinosaur. You can’t have multiple cruise control presets, stored in the car’s memory. So you could have one for school zones, one for 60, one for the freeway (etc)?
I like the Mercedes speed limit function but in older cars it’s in 10km increments, if you over-read by two or three km/h it’s not possible to compensate. |

Do we really need cruise control in those lower speed brackets so people can switch off and distance themselves from the attention thats actually required in the zones where the speed is lower?

My ex used to set the cruise for 60 in town when driving my car.... Used to sugar me up the firetrucking wall!!
As a consequence she didn't get the opportunity very oft at all. (Now, even less so.) Cheers, Tony |

I suspect that may have been more a speed related thing, pretty sure that box doesnt have any more than neutral/reverse switches in it?
Most cruise control systems are set up so they wont engage under a certain speed.

Though if its speed related, I'm still going the same actual speed, just different gear and higher RPM in 2nd. Perhaps topic for another thread!

I just tested it. Went up to 60 in 2nd gear, it won't set the cruise. In 3rd, you have to go above, roughly, 37kmh, for it to set. It was under 40 I know that.
Maybe the custom job changed a few settings :P

Or maybe it looks at revs and speed to calculate which gear you are in?

Why is it..... that there seems to be sooooooo many of these you beaut "Financial planners" that are so eager to enlighten us on how best to invest our hard earned pennies, all the while they're lightening our wallets.
I mean, if they really were so great at knowing how to invest their money, surely they'd be relaxing in the time when they werent working at "investing"..... Or maybe they cant make a decent dollar at investing and its easier/more profitable to separate fools from their money?
