Default 220kph in a Ford Ute in Gippsland (Vic) - 19 year old driver

I just heard on the radio that the cops busted a 19 year old (with a passenger) in a 'high performance' Ford Ute in Gippsland last night doing 220 kph.

Noel Ashby was calling the guy a complete idiot etc for putting everyone's lives in danger.

The owner of the car was the passenger in the car.

Can't find anything in the paper about it.....

Anyone know anything?

Anyone willing to own up to being the driver or passenger ?

Why doesnt that surprise me.

Kids are all hoons these days. In my day, everyone drove the speed limit or well under it just be safe.

Said it before... Say it again...

If you want to speed like that, go to the NT, where they have no speed limits. :MrT_anim:

Cheers

Hey. Dont put all us young kids (as you call us) in the same basket here mate. There are some of us out here that take our racing/burnouts do the drag strip. Me for 1.
And what do you mean 'back in your day'? HOw old are you? 30-40? I know for a fact that you guys used to get away with alot more back then. I know for a fact that there was organised street drags, and people still doing stupid speeds in the old falcs aswell. THe only thing now is that most of us 'young kids' have speed limiters........

Same except I'm 19. I drive a turbo car and just because I know it will go a high speed doesn't mean that I do it.

Im pretty sure its depending on the type of ute. My 4.0 falc is limited to 180, where as my brothers EF XR8 (as far as hes pushed it) he hasnt found it. (and no, hes not a 'young kid')

"High Performance" Ford ute likely means a BA, they are limited at 250 I think.

The young guy should have went a bit harder and he might have got there.

It's not the speeding that kills you. It's the sudden stop at the end when you hit the tree. Somebody should Blow Teenagers up.

My BA XL cuts out at 180. I wound it out up in the NT while I was living there.
I think the XR models are not limited, but I could be wrong.

WTF? I'm 22 and stick to the speed limits, and I know lots of other younger drivers who do as well. I did get booked once back in 2002 for being 15kph but I've learnt my lesson. On the other hand, when my Dad was young, he drove an XA GT Coupe and was an absolute hoon. He was constantly above the speed limit. I think he said he got it over 130mph a few times. Back then though, you could nearly get away with driving at those speed, because speed cameras were non existant. He did get caught by the cops a couple of times though. These days, everyone are too scared to speed, even when overtaking. That's what the overuse of speed cameras and radar has done. You can speed for a few seconds while overtaking, and you'll recieve an unwelcome surprise in the mail.
