Default Mark Behr's Aussie Ford histories

These are great! I particularly liked the E series ones as I did not know a lot of this stuff. If Mark is here on the forums, thank you for this. They make a youtube companion to all the excellent brochures and pics DFB has posted up. Mark's insight, being there at FPV, Ford's marketing agency, and Holden (look forward to the modern Holden histories, too) gives him a unique insight to share.

I've been through most of the post classic and really like the love for the E series, I think Ford got the product absolutely right here, and had market leadership as a result. ED - Nailed it! Yes they really did. And EL is remembered fondly, a very good car.

Even though he thinks the XF finished in 1988 ?

He also has a couple of items in the XK history incorrect. These include the release of the EJ Holden which he says was during XK production. It was actually the same week as the XL Falcon, and he also talks about testing the XK at You Yangs which actually wasn't opened until 1964. Henry Ford didn't authorise funding to build a test facility until late 1960. Gave up watching after that.

And the Ford public relations sheet I have for the ED XR8 Sprint says that Watson engineering in Michigan built the motor, it was not a development of the EB GT which was hotted up by Tickford - mentioned in Gavin Farmers book I believe.

I still like the review of each model and it's life.

As far as I've always been aware, the XF did finish in 1988, replaced by the EA.

Or are you referring to the ute and wagon that I think continued on a little longer?

XF’s did continue into early 1988.

5 years longer for the ute and panel van. My van's build date is Feb 93'

XF sedan & wagon were superseded by the EA in Feb 1988, but the XF ute
& van soldiered on until replaced by the XG in April 1993.
