One good thing about the result was that other mob was going to give us even more debt

Being a greedy OLD fart, I probably won’t be around long enough to worry about all this massive spiralling debt?
But future generations… My kids, My grandkids… By Christ, not going to be too rosey?

And how many Governments have been in debt and have paid it back?

Were you as worried when ScoMo and Co increased out debt by 7 times in the time they were in charge? A Government who got in based on a 'budget emergency', but managed to increase the debt by 7

Interesting to hear both sides of state politics forecast back to surplus within 3 years. The opposition actually had it sooner, despite committing to more debt.

Debt is an accepted generational thing nowadays!
Governments, youth, struggling couples… all splashin the plastic for more stuff nobody really needs?
Will come home to roost eventually….

We will know by the next election if that happens.

I was astounded by both sides of politics with all the promises and spend when in reality, us the public will be paying big time for the big spend no matter how much spin they give us.

Not entirely accurate

The Kirner government were quite the privatisers themselves as they needed the cash for their spending and budget short falls

They started the process of selling Loy Yang B before the 92 election and managed to balls it up from memory so badly that the sale was completed by Kennett government

The election was 2 oct 92 and Loy Yang B sold in Nov 5-7 weeks later

Federally Keating sold the Moomba to Sydney gas pipeline in 94, both parties were privatising.

The main problem with going back to the SEC government type of ownership is that should the SEC on behalf of the government invest in obsolete or white elephant type of power generation the entire risk will be born by the tax payer

The main advantage of leaving it in private hands is that if they fk up its on them.

Back in the day it was solely coal, gas and hydro pretty straight forward.

One good thing about it going back to the gov is that should the grid fail for any reason we know who to blame as they have taken total responsibility from design of to ownership of the system

Probably the Desal plant is an indicator of what the SEC will be like. If you think that was value for money and the gov did a good job u will support the SEC.

Black Saturday fires were attributed to the lack of infrastructure maintenance by private enterprise.

Personally I don't trust private enterprise to get it right, shareholders are their priority

IF power was in public hands still, would power bills be so high - hell no

The new SEC will be 51% owned by the State and will focus on green energy only

The desal plant will come into its own, but the north south pipeline was a huge waste of money. It forced me vote against Labor for the first time in my life. I live on the Goulburn River
