Never in my 55 years have I ever seen ants in the butter. Even with the worst summer infestations in the kitchen, particularly before a storm or rain, the legions of ants would not go near the butter. The past 2 weeks however, have seen ants practically swimming in my butter. Why is this so???

ANTS? (Homigas, we call em here) You ain’t seen ants til you’ve lived in our jungle!
Fire ants, Army ants, Leaf-cutter ants, Acacia ants, Bullet ants (well named!) A corpse, ditched in the jungle, would disappear in a week here.... All due to ants! A couple “swimmin in ya butter”, I’m sure, isn’t going to do much harm? Butter in the fridge slows them down too

But why??? After 55 blissful years of not having to worry about ants in my butter, this is an extra layer of woe I have to contend with. I now lay awake at night wondering if my lettuce is safe. MY LETTUCE!!!

Likely Pharaoh's Ants (Monomorium Pharaonis); they love butter. https://www.pestcontrol.org.au/ants.html

Manufacturers seem to be adding more and more sweeteners to everything these days, wouldn't surprise me to see it in butter as well.
Check the sugar content on the pack.

Could it be just for the moisture? Is it regular salted butter, unsalted, or unsalted cultured?
Also, if you put some of the same butter on another butter dish in a different place, are they seeking it out? |

Maybe you dipped the knife with honey on it back in the butter to spread again.
Or could be that they've been sick of black all these years and want yellow shoes. I don't use real butter or store it how it should be, I buy the standard fluff that I store in the fridge that they fill with chemicals that spreads easier than anything I put on after it from the pantry. |

I'm thinking the butter is contaminated. could be a pending class action maybe get a current affair onto it.
or you Local MP's Pauline or Bob, maybe Clive hes not busy at the moment? Down south we use Devondale extra soft in a plastic tub, we keep that on the bench also.

I've never had ants in my butter but every now and again they invade my house and for the life of me I can't work out where they are coming from.
I see the trains of them on the walls but don't know how they are getting in. It drives me bat**** crazy. |
