Another big Ford sedan bites the dust. I know there was plenty of speculation over the decades as to whether the Taurus would replace the Falcon in Australia, I'm personally glad it never did. Taurus was an ok car but was based on an ancient platform (sound familiar?) with poor interior packaging and in the end became a victim of the SUV onslaught.

... that and it was never a great car to start with. I'm not sure I agree with the Ford strategy as it seems to be largely predicated on the belief that the demand for SUV's and 'truck' won't go away any time soon.
But hey, I don't get paid the big bucks to make those calls so I'm no doubt talking out of my you know what.

The last of the Taurus SHO's were pretty nice though ..
3.5 litres twin turbo ..looked okay .. Rather have one than a Mondeo I think .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXQeBBFt-vc.. |

Abandoning sedans seems strange when companies like Hyundai/Kia and VW Group are doubling down on them... I don't like it but time will tell if it the right call.

engineering this to suit their own ends. Ford doing half baked refreshes on its cars almost assured a decline in sales, particularly the premium trim buyers, so Ford basically engineered the result it wanted and the excuse to change. The saving grace is that no plants will be closed in USA, canada or Mexico those plants actually given new SUVs and Ranger to produce.. GM on the other hand was much more brutal in killing card by simply closing three car plants in the US and one in Canada, most the replacement volume will be SUVs coming from Mexico Last edited by jpd80; 10-03-2019 at 12:42 AM. |

Not to mention people are leaving sedans in droves. Kia is seeing it cause the Stinger isn't selling very well, and it looks like it won't even make a second generation model. They were hoping for big US sales to keep in going but it hasn't really done much there. |

Yes, the Australian designed Chinese Taurus is actually a nice a looker! I saw a few while I was in Shanghai last year. I did however had to do a couple doubles takes, as I almost confused them with the Mondeo.
