Default 80-120

Anyone had a chance to time what their car does from 80-120k/hr.As opossed to 1/4mile times, 80-120 may be a touch more ROAD relavant.I noticed some magazines now include this figure in there car tests.

Id be interested what u come up with (in any car) :1syellow1

the main issue is getting an accurate reading for such a test.

And how is it timed?

Do you do WOT run from say 0-130 and time how long it took between 80-120, or do you drive at 80 and hammer it til you get to 120 and record that?

Yeah, famous last words will go from 'watch this ИИИ' to 'time this ИИИ'..

Obyiously in a flat controled enviroment, the way the magazine testers do it is...

You pick the lowest gear that the car will sit at 80 in...press the timer right as u put ur foot down and clock off right on 120kph. Some cars this is second gear others may change into 3rd during the run. Some examples...

Ford Mustang GT-4.3secs
Nissan 350Z Track-4.5secs
Volkswagen Polo GTI-5.2

Yeh personally i think the 80-120 is the most relevant. 0-100 is OK, quarter mile is great for bragging, but when your on the wrong side of the white line of a state highway in 2nd gear gear, you want to now how quick you can get the hell out of there.

Personally i think e-series are pretty damn good in this respect, kick it down into second and youll be out of it in no time as opposed to some cars ive driven 0-100 is not bad, but when you put your foot down doing 80/90 very little happens.

probelm for me (and others with 5 speeds) is that from 80-110 im in 2nd, then 110-120 its 3rd. So this is one case where it will be a big advantage to have an auto.
