Default 12volt jump starters

Any one have some thing similar I seem to be getting a lot of flat battery in my BA simple light left on or some thing not sure so


I have no idea on what what these are like and life span any comments


will they start a 6cly falcon fairmont 6 cyl

I have never tried them only seen them on tele. Maybe you are not driving around enough and maybe a trickle charger would help keep battery in tip top condition.

I reckon it would struggle to start a 6 cylinder engine.

My daughter has one similar and it only just turned over her Focus engine last week. Did the job eventually though.

I saw a fellow using one a few weeks back.He had a 6 cyl Commodore and it started it very easily.The trick is to hook it up and wait a couple of minutes for the curent to flow to the flat battery before trying to start the engine.

You may have a Parasitic battery drain. Go on Google to find out how to find etc.

Parasitic battery drain would that be some thing that happen all the time I might go months and then it happens

what I plan on doing is checking all the interier bulbs see if any problem there

but not this week I had 7 teeth out Monday and the rest out next Monday I am on narcotics for back pain and my teeth are all damaged or broken

so I am going to take it easy for a few days

I bought something similar from Costco for about $99.00.

It has started a 2005 I6 BA Falcon that had a totally discharged battery without any problems.
Also a 2004 4.7HO V8 Jeep with a flat battery.

Just a bit of advise on these. Never leave them charging un attended. They have started a few fires when nobody is around to attend to them.

many people do not realize how dangerous battery can be


I had a old 6 volt VW sedan the battery was under the rear seat and that used to stink some times when they were on the last legs

so many fires started from bad battery chargers


And was it the Ford ranger that caught fire because some one put a charger on the wrong way on a advertising shoot

they are a bomb and we have a bad dependance on them phones cameras ect

Check your alternator! I had my Battery go flat every couple of weeks and it turned out that the internal regulator in the alternator is playing up!
So when I started it cold it reads fine at 14.5 Volts and as it warms up after a drive on idle it was only charging at 12.6 which was weird! Then when you Revved it, back up to 13.8 Volts it was showing! so it was giving it enough charge if I drove it every 3 days! So give it a check at start up then after you go for a 15 min drive check it and if it's only 12.6 or 12.8Volts then get someone to rev it up while you have the multimeters on to see if it did what mine did and it will increase charge to 13.8-14Volts!
If it does then you will have to get a New alternator!
Also I bought a 900amp Jump starter pack and it jumps my XR8!
I got mine on Sale from Repco for $60
Only what happened to me and they my Mechanic friend said he just had a 6 BA Falcon do the same!

If battery is older than 3 years short trips won't be enough for alternator to recharge it driving to shops/around town.

Load test battery if its older than 3 years (auto electrician shop will have load tester) and also get him to check alternator is charging at least 13Volts D.C at idle with high beams on and up to about 15Volts D.C over 2,000rpm.

Weren't these beauties infamous for shorting out and setting fire to the seats when the seat springs started to sag OR you had a shag on the back seat?

I bought a Bonds Battery about a year ago and No joke this was what they told me at Head office that - They will not replace a Battery if it dose not idle at 14.4 Volts period! I knew my BA wasn't doing that and fully loaded up like lights and heater on etc it was not aloud to drop below 14Volts!
I said to here there is no way that a BA with an older alternator will do that and was not really Happy with there tests! I understand a New Car can do that but when buying the Battery the was No talk of any of these Tests they did if there was a problem if the Battery went flat!
But after replacing the alternator it actually is reading those results but I couldn't believe they want an older alternator to perform like that!

I have the original 2003 Battery that came out with the XR8 when sold brand new! So its 14 years old and Honestly and it charges if I start it every 3 days and take it for a 20min drive once a week! I guess you get lucky with some good Battery's every now and then!

Got to agree with the battery supplier here mate. They need at least 14.1v to charge the battery. Otherwise the output is just maintaining the charge. At least the new alternator test proved that the battery was not getting sufficient charge. Sometimes it is not always the battery that is the problem with electrics, but the first accused!!!

yes batterys can be a lucky dip when getting one I had one last 9 years , I got it from the RAA guy in town and knows it was 9 years he bought 6 and sold them in a few days

but the problem today is cars have computers and so much technology they really make them work much harder and there is a lack of quality out there


I personally think they will soon be putting the new lithum batterys in when the price drops

I have been to the 3 main auto parts places in town all they sell is to p of the line modlel jumer kits for large 4x4 they say no point getting different models too expensive and most farmers just buy stuff price no problem

any one remember the days of the old holden if your battery died push start it and drive with out one cannot do that now

I've used this for phone charging daily for 3 years now. And when i say daily i mean constant use every day of the week. Been dropped a few times and still works perfect.

Jumped multiple cars with it too, it got my 4.2 patrol started when i needed it.

Hands down best $140 I've ever spent. I want the new model but this thing is showing no signs of stopping so untill the day comes, I will continue to use it.

Just to add a bit more, Sjs are the only brand of these I would trust. I bought an ebay version that claimed a higher mAh rating and it was a complete lie.

Although it did work and for the $30 it cost me, I'm not too worried.

Buy once, cry once. The SJS has been brilliant. It goes camping, fishing,shooting and rides to work every day with me.

This one now appears to be a superseded model, but a few years ago in the Reponut Youtube channel he was very happy with his and on camera it was shown to jump start a big V8 in a large pick up without trouble.

I have one of these. Not cheap, but lives up to the specs.

I've started a work mates bf2 egas with it, no problem. I've also used it to charge phones while camping and power a 50cm led light bar.

This thing will jump start a 12cyl diesel if it had to.

UPDATE. Just went for a drive with my young bloke and he told me my glove box light was on (when it is closed). Being the clever bastard I am and using my investigative skills, I could just make out a little light shining from the air vent adjustment screw.

Now I have seen this very small glow previously and always dismissed it as reflection from an outside light. If you just push the lid a little you can turn it on and off. I have now pulled it out and disconnected it for now while I work on a fix

This explains why my battery needs topping up regularly (I don't use the car that much these days). So I reckon it could be your problem as well.

The seller from the first link is Australian, so would come with the appropriate cable and plug. Buying the USA version would present those issues

I had one of those battery pack units years ago.Probably got used once a day .It would last about a week between charges when it was new but over time its charge time reduced.By the time it was 4-5 years old we had it on charge pretty well every day.Could buy new batteries but they were as dear as a complete unit.Don't know how long the little hand held jobs last,they are a lot easier to store in the car somewhere.

yes I had vehicle tested out no problem he said it often easy to leave a light on also it is a common problem here the longest drive for me is 15 minutes in Broken hill

I used to go out of town a lot but now as am getting older I find I am getting slack and watching foxtel more so no big charge

mate bought a 1994 magna from an elderly couple here had it since new 45,000 k on the clock a common site here in you never go out of town

you just do not see that in major cities

re smaller ones I asked the RAA guy here he said you get what you pay for and would not buy a cheep one or under 1200cc which iwhat I have

Haven't found one yet that could jump start a 3+ ltr diesel engine.
I keep a spare fully charged 900amp hr Century for jumpstarting in winter.

On parasitic drain, I found I had a problem with one of the Ford trucks when I swapped its tail lights over to LED. Some LED indicators, as some would know blink to fast as there is not enough resistance so I fitted ballast resistors as recommended by the manufacturer but in doing so caused a parasitic drain when the truck wasn't being used.
On the other three identical trucks it wasn't a problem.

Much better off buying a trickle charger that will last years and years and keep battery at full charge while not driving which will prolong battery life.

Have a read thru this thread from earlier this year.

Really depends what your auto shops have available in town?

Yes trickle charging is good for a battery system which is in good shape and your connected to the grid.
I charge via 12v solar directly to my batteries. (truck and farm Centuries)
