best / cheapest don't go together when it comes to insurance
All my cars are with Shannons (the wife's grocery getter the project, the 38 the lot) I find them good to deal with and have had no problems with claims or values, price wise, they are a little on the high side for the Territory but the rest is very reasonable

cheapest would have to be places like budget direct and so-on but they will not insure modified cars, even something with aftermarket wheels, so the best insurance company i have found and i use for everytihng inc my house is shannons
i am getting quotes now for a BA GT and shannons are at $880 where as the budget companies do not even list FPV's and will not insure them any suggestions for FPV insurance?

Quote budget direct, Coles and aami.
Budget direct was cheapest for me. I hear Coles are price matching at the moment too. Note that if you go with BD you are not fully covered till your car is inspected.

Don't forget that your age and suburb/postcode has a LOT to do with pricing.
Jump online and spend an hour or two comparing companies.

I got my FG2 XR6T insured with CGU, after being insured with AAMI in previous years on my BA XR6 (AAMI were way too overpriced). I spent days looking for a reasonable group.
I didn't want to go with any company under the Suncorp banner again, after hearing a lot of horror stories from a mate (panel beater) who did third party quotes for people. So I looked into it, and sure enough their groups (some in particular), tend to do botchy repair jobs that can often cause more problems than they're worth. As a note, Shannons is owned by Suncorp.

It might be easier to say who isn't owned by Suncorp

Grandpa me went through the quote process only to find out my sunroof, LPI conversion and spec leather conversion meant it was too exy to insure so stay with Coles (Wesfarmers).
There are so many variables to the question you just have to spend time going through them all it's always comes down to just your unique situation.

Coles will price match for new customers, but if you are a current customer tough t1tty. After having a few cars with Coles all cheaper than other companies, for wife and I, we bought a BMW and it was over 200 dearer than budget direct, WTF? I had 1 claim and all went smoothly but if you need to talk to them or deal direct over the phone then be prepared for a not so smooth ride. My building and contents insurance is much cheaper through Coles also.
Anyone tried Woolworths yet? I hate it when you get through the whole quote online and they say they dont insure that car for that driver. Why not when you first put in your particulars? Budget rang me after I quoted for my FGXR6T. How was the quote they asked, not within coooeeeee I said, but then we realised I had put in I had no no claim bonus. That bought the quote closer but still over 150 higher than Coles. But the BMW is cheaper, go figure.

Do you mean 'underwritten' as opposed 'owned'?

cheapest isn't always the best it is all about what the package provides. there is an old saying , " you get what you pay for" generally the cheapest will look for ways to dodge a claim and provide poor or no service.
rather than looking for the cheapest you should look for the best value for money

The commonwealth bank gave me the best price, whenever I mention an under 25 year old person will be driving the price sky rockets
What kind of questions should I ask them to understand if I'm getting good service? 1999 Ford Falcon AU XR6 Series 1 - 2.5" Redback catback + twin tip stainless steel exhaust tips, high air flow air panel filter, XR8 Snorkel, Full Tickford body kit + biplane spoiler (Stock) |

Personally I go with RACV, because modding your car does not 'void' the insurance PROVIDED they are legal mods aka don't chop your springs or put new rims on with bald tyres etc.
The value is based on either the market value of the car OR the agreed value, and as such, market value is the value of the car or agreed value is whatever you set it to, so if you want to claim on the mods too you MUST have your agreed value set accordingly. Premium can be a bit hefty (especially if you're under 25) Mine is something like, $1800 a year due to p plates and type of car. But the one time I have dealt with RACV (other party at fault) they were extremely helpful and I had my car being repaired within a week of the accident. So I would never hesitate to recommend them. Just my 2c.

You 'get what you pay for' .... perhaps it has more to do with 'targeting' a low risk group.
Coles and Woolworths are fighting aggressively in every area in which they compete and I guess we can expect casualties. I wouldn't want to be a young male P plater with a modded car on hire purchase. QBE wouldn't give me a quote as they had detected I wasn't a 'loyal' customer, ie I don't auto renew.

Why try to outwit the censor when you can say Titty ?No, he means what he says, look at the link it says 'our brands'. Not, 'Underwritten by'.

i got quotes with Lumley and Shannons, both about the same, Lumley will let me increase excess to reduce premiums so shannons is at $880, LSV is $850 but shannons will also reduce my other insurance by $40 so its dead equal.
if i raise the excess from $550 to $1000 the premium drops to $650pa this is for a 34y/o in semi regional nsw for a stock 2003 GT and limited use stored in a garage both are aimed at enthusiasts and so i have choice of repairer and first dibs to buy it back i'll most likely stick with shannons so its all on 1 bill

Speaking of insurance;
On my way home from work just now I saw a green P plater driving a BF GT. Makes me wonder if he's driving it for 'work purposes'. Even then insurance probably wouldn't cover that.
