you would never guess how that sentence ends!
Was listening to 3aw, when i burst into laughter! The serious new anouncer said "Photographs were taken of young hoons jumping on a dead whale, as well as prodding it with sticks"! Thats the furtherest away from the normal meaning of the word I have ever heard!! Anyway people were ringing up saying they should be in jail etc! Boys cant even be boys! I know if I was 14 i would also be climbing on the dead whale and poking it with sticks! who wouldnt! heres an article. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/war...-1226429824468 |

Hoon is a colloquial Australian derivation of hooligan.
Hooliganism involves unruly/anti-social or otherwise loutish behaviour, so in context it is a valid use of the word. It's not the worst thing that can happen in the world, but I would have thought at 14 kids might have developed some common sense or respect for the dead (including dead animals). Probably a slow news day.

I couldn't believe that story...they talk about "disrespectful" and "shameful" and so on...it's a dead whale for christs sake. The talk of massive fines for "interfering" with it or "removing anything from it" is rediculous too. I've got a sperm whale tooth packed away somewhere...picked it up on the beach at Burrum Heads many years ago. The thing is dead, who cares what happens to it?
Look, I support anti-whaling, i'd like to see Japanese whaling boats sunk and the whole industry to dry up and die....but this is a carcass that washed up on a beach. Why are they being so precious about it? |

if I was a kid again (I wish) .........you wouldn't keep me away from it
kids just need to be kids occasionally and journalists simply need to go and get a real job! they are not "hoons" they are kids being kids leave them alone.....a shark in the area simply adds to the excitement well done them for not breaking down trees and windows or annoying us old folks........move over kids I got me a stick thats going into that eye.....watch the gore!

Headline reads- TEENAGERS INJURED HOONING DEAD WHALE.
These kids put themselves at risk sometimes when having fun - "its cool nothins gonna happen to me", its the old "invincibility mentality" as you do at that age, but i would love to see the look on their faces if the whale blew up covering them in blood & guts lol! Now i'd watch that on Youtube! ps- was there any warning signs up for OH'S purposes? cheers,Maka

What's the difference to the below images??... At the least the whale was DEAD (and unlike below, probably not killed by man)

Young people like to have some harmless fun...
Old people like to complain about young people having fun... Their are better things to worry about these days, let alone about some punks playing on a dead whale.

Ah yes, the famous "exploding whale on the beach" video.
That was a deliberate attempt to get rid of a massive stinking carcass on a beach. People came from near and far to watch the spectical, as (I think) the army rigged demolition charges to it. The thing exploded, the crowd cheered...then huge lumps of blubber and meat started raining down on them and crashing into cars parked up above the beach...hilarious. The one on the truck was a ****er as well. It was being transported somewhere to get it away from the beach too (I seem to recall back to a university or something for study) and it exploded, showering everyone and everything in the street with muck. |

The thing that ****** me off the most is they just find every fricken excuse to fine someone for the most stupidest things. Money, money, money, it never ****en ends. I'd like to see the fisheries try and fine me 32k for interfering with a whale. Good luck.
