Hardly seems worth the effort does it?
Toyota must be crazy to think that $80 000 is a reasonable price for a povo pack landcruiser??? How about getting rid of the complex V8 in which the starter motor is buried inside the manifold (which I was told Toyota allows 8 to 12hrs to remove)?? http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor...906-1juuc.html Quote:

Toyotas have always been expensive. I know back in 05 we I was selling new Toyotas the RRP of a couple of vehicles were at 100 grand and that was before the gov and dealer added there bit. I am betting you would be driving away from most dealers in one of these for under 80 grand

I thought a couple of years ago the base cruiser was ~$60,000....and air conditioning was optional....
Most of the people I know who used to own Land Cruiser now have either a Kluger or Prado. |

i cant believe they put a v8 into a pc because those things fall over super easy and they certainly dont need more power.

Either way, I wouldn't pay 80k for that sort of vehicle unless it was an absolute necessity. There is probably a handful of other vehicles that are pretty close for 20-30 grand less. |

Yes, they may be able to cross the Sahara desert without flinching, but there is absolutely nothing luxurious about them. A base model and it's still 80k?!

Toyota had to make alot of changes on the new model 79's as the mines couldn't use them because of the no airbag feature they had. Still very basic and for a v8 turbo they are gutless. Still wind up windows lol

You do realise you do not have to buy one?
They seem to sell lots of them so obviously someone thinks they are good value. On the other hand I have had more than one person question $60k++ for an entry level FPV stating it is not a "luxury car", just a taxi with a V8 engine....... People see different value in different things. |

They can sell them for 80K cause people buy them, why drop the price when they sell heaps of them. This new "base" model 200 series will sell by the boat load to the mines. People have been crying out for a auto base spec car and will love it. The 70 series which is smaller than the 200 series only has a single turbo v8 and no auto option.

In the USA it's all F250's, ford Excursions/Expeditions and the equivalent Chevy offerings, Toyota never get a look in.
Then again the abovementioned cars in the USA make the 200 series landcruiser look really small. Ford USA, send some of your trucks and 4x4's over here.

This new 200 is only getting single turbo from what i've heard. The lack of airbag was the main reason the 7x series cant be used in the mines. |

70 series has had airbags for a couple of years now and are being used extensively in the mines, primarily the utes. According to this article the existing twin turbo v8 and auto will be used. |

The ol 7.3 Turbo diesel F trucks have more pulling power than a cruiser would dream of There was a story goin around where i used to live , that apparently a bloke in his new cruiser went to an importer to buy an F truck "Id like to trade me cruiser in on a F truck", Seller, "Ya mean ya want me to trade your cruiser as a deposit on the F truck" Kinda thought that was funny |

The mines will love these as well as governments / police...
There has definately been a void in the market, the only positive thing to come is the fact that there will be lots of them at the auctions potentially pulling toyotas strong resale values down a touch!

Been hearing some companys are looking at alternatives as Toyota cant get their cars over here quick enough to meet demand. Step dad is getting a Navara or Ranger as his company car as Toyota cannot supply in time.
