Default GT pod conversion

I am looking at doing the GT pod intake conversion and sent off a list of the parts firstly to Knox Ford. I expected it to be more than the suggested $250 but not by this much! : That kind of money I think I'll wait and stick to getting the cam and roller rockers done first.

Hose Sub Assembly - BA 9B697 A $33.20 INC GST

Clamp - 9628 AA $30.45

Cover Air Cleaner - BAT 9A628 A 23.55

Bell Housing XR8 - BAT 9A612 A 56.75

Bracket Air Cleaner - BAT 9626 A 52.90

Tube Air Cleaner Inlet - BAT 9C676 A 55.10

3 x Grommet - BA 9G823 A 8.75

2 x Collar, Steel Plate - BA 9K625 A 5.85

2 x Screw and Washer - AU2TVE6W095A 4.85

Motorcraft Paper Air Filter - FA 1632 80.10

BPT Adapter Tube to Airbox $69.50

Over $420 :jerk:

I think the $80 paper air filter is a little over the top too.

Yeah the idea was to have the pod box in there not for the sake of a pod filter.

Must repeat the mantra - performance first, performance first

i unlike others, find my car runs much better on the pod than the panel. For some reason my other mods just dont seem to do jack until the pod goes on, and top end power on the highway is much much better.

Of course now i have a K&N pod and sticker, so the pod can come off aslong as the sticker stays on to give me those extra 5rwkw's

I think I'll send a 'please explain' to Knox Ford just for a laugh.

that concept of a please explain just reminded me of a quote from tony martin and mick malloys poop chute album.

"If you dont like it yooz can go someplace else, what are ya some kind of a poofta?!"

which probably wont be much different from what knox will say anyway lol.

$8.75 for 3 grommets?! FFS, and Ford wonder why people bag them. That is ridiculous.

Two could be good, more would be better. I'll get in touch with Darren and see if there are savings to be made. If so maybe we can strike up a group buy? I'm sure there should be a few from AFF and FM who would be interested. You wouldn't have to change much of that to get the conversion to fit up to an i6 would you?

*ponders*

This could work really well with those mandrel bent intake pipes. Legal pod filters for everyone and it wouldn't be too hard to stick an extra inlet or two to the pod box either.

is it worthwhile putting an PVC inlet into the airbox behind the au headlights?

EDIT: And by that I mean standard AU headlights, not the XR ones that allow more airflow.

I doubt there would be that much airflow behind there. Maybe if a pipe was run to the driving lights bracket?

ive had a seriously close look behind there looking for more air for my pod, theres about a 1.5 inch gap behind the lights and between the steel lip of the chassis running down into the front bumper, theres a bit of room between the airbox and the radiator, but thats a tad warm for air intake, the two other option seem to be to drill a whole under the airbox, which im not inclined to do at all, or go for a bonnet vent that seals against the airbox lid, with a few holes in that.

$275 is rock bottom for that set-up guys. Still a whole lot better than what Ford want!
