Hi everyone,
All of a sudden my Au S1 4ltr Auto has started displaying DTE 74 on the dash when you turn it on along with beeping. It goes away after a sec. Has anyone had this problem and know what it is? |

That's normal. Sometimes it can get stuck on a certain number and then "jump" up or down (usually down). Check it out in the next few days, see it is goes to 66 or something.
The beeping (three short beeps) is an audible warning tone to remind you to fill up.

Do many of you guys let your fuel get down to the point where the DTE says 20 or 10? I'm just curious as to how accurate they are as i always get paranoid when i see the fuel needle hit the red mark and think i'll be driving along and run outta fuel lol.

Mine's been down to 11 kms remaining.
It's a number that depends on your driving habits and averages out over time, so it's possible to drive gently and get low on fuel, then drive enthusiastically and run out before getting to zero. Apparently there's an effect on the AU that occurs when you're *really* low and take a hard right corner, the little remaining fuel will move around in the tank to the point it misses the exit port thing and will cause the engine to stutter for a moment.

Also had my car read DTE 0 before, but as Dauphin said, it's calculated on how you've been driving in the last few hundred kays. |

hey guys dont try to run your cars on E to see how many k's you can get on DTE, as you all should know on these newer cars the fuel pumps are lubed by the fuel and by running them on empty all the time causes the pump to burn out.
As for me i hate seeing the needle below half way.. Ahh also you cant use the exuse that the tank needs a clean so i run it empty sometimes. These days the tanks again you all should know are plastic not old school metal so there isn't anything that will corrode in there.

Thats real interesting. In my car, under 1/2 a tank and a corner my car just dies, and the takes off again. Same thing when I lainch hard under 1/2 tank, its like I stall it and then starts again.

68 L for the Fairmont as well.
If you go into diagnostics mode, it can show you the real figure of how much fuel is in your car. In the blue car, it can get up to 72L into it.

I've driven about 20kms after DTE hit 0... no dramas
but noticed a change in performance towards the end, I must have been getting close - wasn't a good thing as I've heard there can be a lot of crap at the very bottom of the fuel tank |
