do sparrows migrate?

ive noticed recently where i live there is a lot less of the flying mice around in the last month or two. asked a bloke today in a workshop where i know they have heaps of sparrows in the roof and he said that there isnt as many there either.
so do they migrate or has the wet weather here in central qld killed a few off?
main reason i noticed is ive been planning to build a trap to kill them cause im sick of them getting in the roof cavity and nesting and all of a sudden instead of 20 or 30 getting around my house ive only seen 3 or 4

You are planning on building a trap to stop them nesting in your roof? What are you going to do, kill all of them?!?!?

Wouldn't it be a better idea to just seal off your roof from the outside so that they can't get in. I have the same issue with blackbirds and that's whst I'm going to do.

redxr347, yes i was going to kill them, feral animals need to be erradicated, by blackbirds do you mean starlings/ indian mynah?, ive seen them whilst travelling.
ive got nothing against the birds in particular, just that they displace native species and one of the best ways to fix the local environ is to encourage native species to flourish.
i have wrens and finches in my yard so i would like to help them proliferate

Yeah, I think I'd go with blocking the roof rather than killing the problem. Simply going to be easier to fix a hole than kill the whole flock of birds.

In that case then go right ahead and kill them, but also try to stop them from having anywhere to nest in your yard/house too. Yes I do mean Starlings, horrible birds . They have spelt their own demise at my place though, they stole the dogs food once too many times and now he hates them. He's a quick dog too. Most placid dog ever and is scared of my cats and will let a Magpie sit in front of him but when it comes to Starlings no chance.

Indian Miner's seem to be the worst. They were brought here to get rid of bugs and flies off cattle and horses but they became the bigger pests

There was a ranger at Darebin Parklands years ago that used to trap 100's and drown them all in a cage. Sounds cruel but they are the feral cat of the bird's. Blackbirds, Starlings and Sparrow's arent much better, they steal other bird's nests and eggs and are aggressive towards natives
