Default Why I am a Member?

Other members have recently posted some great stories on their pride and joy in the ORSM build section kindly set up by Laminge. As I am at a cross roads with my wheels awaiting new model I thought instead of talking about car I would talk about me. How did I become a member of ORSM Ford Cruises.

Back in 2005 I purchased my XR6 Turbo, this is my 15th Ford. I had modified a couple before with Rob HERROD, but otherwise was ignorant to the whole FORD scene such as this site and other dedicated after market people. A quick google and I found this site and then Found Chris FINNIN at Bluepower.

That same year I attended the AME show. I saw some nice looking wheels, a yellow Phoon and black XR8, both had Bluepower stickers. I approached someone, can't recall who and asked for Chris (FINNIN). They thought I was talking about Chris (ORSMXR) I had a chat, a membership form ended up in my hands and my wife paid it as part of my Christmas present.

My first event was a Ford Forums drag day down at Heathcote. Because many were concentrating on racing I felt sort of left out until I met Leo. We had a good chat and I thought this was pretty cool. Then came my favorite day, All Ford Day Geelong. Met the core members of the club, took the wife. We set up our cars, polished them all, had a beaut display, sat around and talked cars all day. It was so relaxing, great cars, great people and I saw this as an escape.

At FPV Chris approached me and asked me to take a more active participation in the club. I was happy to assist as I wanted to help build something that I loved.

That was all a couple of years ago. Our club now has gone through many stages of evolution, we have attracted great new members, won heaps of trophies and have some orsm memories.

The club, being the events based club, is one you can take your family to, relax, enjoy the love affair with Fords and forget all other garbage. Many here know I am a police officer. This I thought would hamstring me being a member of a car club but ORSM has accepted me whole heartily as an enthusiast and when I attend meetings, events, that is what I am, a Ford enthusiasts, not a copper. I thank the club for this. Quite often I get asked questions but I am treated the same as anybody else.

I am now Vice President of this young but proud club. I feel humbled to fulfill this role and some what unworthy in the fact that I am surrounded by people who have placed so much into the club and the hobby.

My lovely wife Samantha and I look forward to many new events with the club.

Jason

A nice read mate... And mate, I am proud to have you as VP... You introduced me to the ORSM clan, and to the forums. You have advised me in personal issues and Samantha and yourself are an integral part of this club. Thanks for what you are, have been and will be.

Kev.

Good read. It probably reflects the views and experiences of many in the club.

Excellent write up Redrum. I have met a few of the ORSM club members, all top people and have seen the effort the club puts into its displays. If I ever decided to move back to Melb from sunny Qld, I would be heading straight to the ORSM club to sign up.

Cheers

Jeff

How do you become an ORSM member in NSW. What's the criteria?

I've been watching the posts from you guys over the past couple of months and I gotta say I'm really impressed....not only about the quality of your cars (which is truly ORSM) ...but more importantly how passionate all you guys are and how there's a true sense of good ol' fashioned Aussie mateship happening.......you seem a great bunch of blokes.

ORSMT has been of great assistance to me in modding my BA as has ORSMBA

You guys are true legends !!

Gee... What to say... Well it was a pleasure if I was any assitance to you. You have a passion, and that is a great start. As for being ORSM? Well all it takes is that same passion, and others that share it. You could then start a NSW chapter... Food for thought?

Very good write up Jas. I thought I might show where I have come from.

My 2004 XR6 is my first Ford that I have owned. I previously have owned a Blueprinted and Balanced 2litre 1976 929(my first car), then i was after something a little more reliable and real cheap to run(as I wasnt earning alot) so I switched to a Daihatsu Applause then traded that for a VT Acclaim for the wife and I used her Daihatsu Charade until I decided it was time to get a decent car. So in 2005 I shopped around wanting to get a AU XR6 VCT.

All the AU's I found had high k's or were too costly, I cashed in some shares and decided to look at a BA XR6 instead. At this stage government auctions was where I was going to get one from. After about 3-4 months of going to auctions to find the right one, on an early Saturday morning a Harvest Green XR6(third auction for the day) was mine at a real good price.

Then I found a huge Ford Car scene which I had never taken notice of before. I looked at other clubs until I saw the ORSM club forum, watched it for awhile then at this years FPV Open Day I saw the ORSM display and was hooked.

I have only been in the club for a short time but I am sure I will stay for a long time especially with the way everyone is treated. Thanks guys for letting me be part of a truly ORSM Club.

Matt

Yes that night is what has made the club what it is today Tony as that night we set the bar nice en high but still lots of room for improvement. Also alot of goals set which most have been met, not bad for 2 years going. After we do the trailer you know whats next, and boy will this be a huge thing for our displays as we will be the first club to do this. l f you have forgotten just remember back to that first night and the AME show on what myself and Theo had in mind.......HAHAHA.
The next 2 years will be fantastic time for the club and the members as always the members are the ones that get all benifits the club can provide.

Cheers Chris
