On my way to work i have noticed they been putting up new speed camera's in the school zones on the side of the road facing against the flow of traffic?? Can they still get you like that as i thought they had to be aimed with the flow of the traffic so the flash doesnt blind you head on if/when it goes off???
For example the one on Hume Hwy Bansktown before the rookwood road turnoff going city direction, theres a speed camera on the left handside facing against the traffic. I cant work out how it could get you without the flash going off esp at 6am when its still pretty dark...unless its meant for cars going the opposite direction. I always thought fixed speed cameras could only get ppl going the direction they're facing??? Regards Jamie

Some of them can get either way depending on the set up. Been like that for a while.

And there is also a new one set up at beverly hills along king georges road, North of the stony creek road intersection, outside the cinema.
Oh and does anyone know if there is actually a camera eastbound on henry lawson drive just before belmore road, across the road from the school? I can see the westbound one but cant find the eastbound one for the life of me even though there are signs for one. I dont think the westbound one can get you going east, as there is a fence in the way.

You'll probably never see them flash, they are most likely an infared system.

They'll be the new IR cameras. No flash, no blinding, no money in your wallet. Cameras facing you have been around for awhile now. The ones on the other side of Mt Ousley in Wollongong have been there for years.

The camera on Henry Lawson Drive on top of the hill at Picnic Point has been there for years catching city bound traffic, until recently when it has been converted and picking up west bound as well. Have the piece of paper to prove it................... :

If you venture on the Pacific and New England Highways, you will find that most if not all will take piccies traffic in both directions.

Well not only have they installed fixed speed cameras on king georges road as mentioned but also up at penshurst on forest road, right next to the school and also at hurstville on forest rd, right next to where KFC used to be.

We have at least 3 signs before each camera, plus the lines on the road.
Theres no reason to get caught unless you're not paying attention to the road, scanning for upcoming hazards. In which case its a "not paying attention" camera. |

Yeah. A mate of mine lives off Sylvania Road, and he was told about that earlier in the year. Apparently the Principal of the High School was lobbying for it to go in. Looks like I'll be using President Avenue from now on. The Sensors are just before (or just after) the crossing.

i second that...imagine how quickly the buttons for reset cruise and + - will wear out within a few weeks...
i cant believe how many camera's are going up...everybody just gonna have to be really alert...what the govt doesnt understand is that it will slow down ppl for that 50m then they are up speeding again...

Now you need to be careful in the M2 section of the tunnel ... heading away rfom the city.
Everyone knows that therre's new speed camera prior going into the tunnel. But recently there's been some lit sections of the tunnel that are brighter than usual ... I had a quick look one evening ... and it looks like they are trialling "extra" IR speed cameras in the tunnel after the "obvious speed camera" ... need to be extra careful ... it's still 70km/h through the tunnel. As I said ... only had a quick look ... but they look like the M5 East IR speed/distance averaging cameras ... so will average your speed throughout the entire tunnel. Just a word or warning for daily commuters through there.

I only really noticed the other week at night (after a dayshift) ... the bright bands of light at the entrance (only outbound from city direction though) ... and then the end of the tunnel is brightly lit.
They have the larger white cameras on the left for pollution/traffic monitoring ... but I am sure there's the black barrel-style cameras up on the roof ... above the left lane offset ... didn't get a good look at the right lane roof though. Mind you trying to drive and look up at the same time at night (cruise set to 70km/h at least) still wasn't the easist. No breakdown lane to pull over and have a look either.

Use President Avenue to Sylvania Road, follow that to the Kingsway, turn left onto the Kingsway. You miss them both! Just make sure you are doing the limit over the sensor lines (and in a BA/BF/SX/SY, the indicated speed is 5 Kms over anyway) and you'll be fine. Does anybody know if the Camera outside of the Wollongong University catches cars both ways? I'm down there a bit for work, and don't always drive slow through there.
