hey guys.
I am really curious as to how many mk2 escorts were either imported or built in Oz? I guess the breakdown would be: RS2000 4 door Auto/manual RS2000 2 door Auto/manual RS2000 Auto Hopefully I will be an owner of one soon, I just want to know what numbers are around. Cheers Allan

There is a zakspeed kit for sale on ebay at the moment, just the thing to convert a mk 2 coupe to a chunky looking Zakspeed RS replicar!

25 RS2000s were imported in 1975 from Germany to qualify for Bathurst, to follow on from the 25 Mk1s the year before. I am guessing they were all 2 door manual. One at the Small Ford day on Sunday had a 5sp gearbox. No idea how many Australian RS2000s were built though, or whether any more were imported.

'73/'74 Model RS2000's were MkI's 25 of which were imported from England and were all 2 Door Manuals
'75 Models were MkII's, 25 2 Door Manuals were imported from Germany '79> Models were assembled in Australia but had quite a few differences from the Germany built vehicles and were avaliable in 2 Door Manual and 4 Door Auto and Manual ( Aus was the only market to ever have 4 Door RS's and Automatic RS's (besides the 1 Auto Mk2 RS2000 produced in Germany for the boss of Ford ). Also Officially 2 Door Auto's weren't avaliable but My RS was one and XR6VCTUTE has one aswell. Ford assembled a maximum of 45 79> RS's a month Also I have heard that Ford did import some more from Germany in '79 but im not too sure. |

nice link 67....but its pretty busted...plus if I had an RS2000 I dont think I would stick that kit on.
it woudl be ok for a normal coupe, but I think the RS's should be left alone unless its factory fitted

as if u gotta love the zakspeed kit, is it true that the euro version of the rs2000 has 12kw's more than the aus version as they do not have the pollution stuff on the carby.

Yeah the German RS's had more power from a better exhaust, better cam and higher compression.
Zakspeed ( Or X-Pack ) Kit was a Factory option in Europe on the Mk2 RS's |

The Twin Cam Escort had a boot spoiler very similar to the Mk 2 RS2000, but these are like hens teeth. I'm sure you could graft on a later spoiler, how it would look is another matter.
I have an Alfa spoiler what doesn't look bad. It was fitted to a panel van, but I've seen them on a Mk 1 sedan before. I think in the right context you can make anything work....I have a Subaru WXR bonnet scoop on my Mk 1 panel van that will look great when I put on some bubble arches. |

Hmm my Dad worked for Ford back in the early 70's and he says that he thinks it may have been in the accessory catalogue but but they never fitted any or saw any vehicles with it on... so as you say it is pretty rare..
Anyway i think a rear spoiler spoils the look of the MkI's |

Australia got pretty much the "left-overs" when it came to Escorts, Capris and Cortinas. The models changed so quickly that when the face-lift models came out all the old parts were shipped off to the colonies. Thats why we only got the early V6 Capris engines, the twin-cams at the end of its run and no "real" RS2000s. My uncle worked at Halewood working on mainly Capris but he had a short stint at AVO and then was offered work in Germany when they took over the Capri production. When we emigrated in 1978, he left Ford and went to work for Triumph/Leyland....Smart move? NOT!

This is an explanation about the Xpack escort. I dont have the RS2000 mk2 production numbers but have read that 2444 were made here in australia plus the 25 german rs2000 that were imported prior to that plus i bleave another one built to the same spec as the original german rs2000's by a ford emplyee for himself(for memory this is what i read some where). Just a little more info that might be useful for you.
