Default Walkinshaw wants to build Australian Corvette fighter

The team behind HSV’s iconic sports sedans wants to take on the likes of the Chevrolet Corvette, Ferrari 296 GTB and Lamborghini Huracan Evo with an Australian-made supercar.

Having already made the fastest, most powerful production car in Australia, the HSV GTSR W1, Walkinshaw Automotive Group (WAG) believes it is capable of building a supercar capable of taking on anything the rest of the world can offer....

Of all the projects they could choose, they want to do an exotic sports car…….
OK but what about increasing your new vehicle remanufacturing complex?

"New Aussie Super/Hyper car"
its one of those headlines that pops up every year or 2. Maybe 1 or 2 prototypes get hand built, then, crickets.
Like "flying cars are 3 years away" and have been for the last 50 years.

Anything to do with a factory RHD Corvette selling out 250 initial allocations in short time?

check out the comments section at the bottom of the speed cafe article about this. they are gold. ryan walkinshaw even had a bit of a meltdown on there.

Hi Mark.

Thanks for you’re remarkably ignorant comment regarding my business.

Walkinshaw Group has grown about 8x in size since I took over, and is now a $450m+ business group employing nearly 1000 people and producing around 13,000 units per annum for multiple automotive partners and for our caravan business. Bare in mind we only used to do circa 2500/3000 units per year in the HSV days.

Walkinshaw Automotive is now Australia’s leading, and largest, automotive design, engineering and manufacturing business. New Age Caravans is now the second largest caravan manufacturer in Australia, after Jayco.

Not bad for a DJ, don’t you think? As for not being in the same Universe as Brabham (who I respect), you’re right I’m not, as it would take a hell of a lot of hard work and investment for them to even get close to catching up with us. Other than producing their hypercar, of which I assume they have sold a handful of, I’m not really sure what else they do in this industry anyway, so the comparison you’ve made is utterly bizarre.

Have a great day though.

New Age caravans. Just the thing Australia needs ... more caravans. Towed by ? Ohh, imported utes with a couple of Aus fitted accessories.

A hyper sports car ?? Something else Australia really needs now. To tow a caravan ?

I have an idea. Set a dealership that can maintain the HSV vehicles that were sold over the years. Would that work.?

Thats actually not a stupid idea, imagine setting up a business that specialized in Aussie performance cars helping source parts, tuning, servicing etc

I like the look of those renders.

It would be great to see another home-grown sports car. "Boutique" cars seem to be very much popular these days (amongst the rich) seems that just owning a Ferrari isn't enough.

Ryan is a good laugh though, tends to rip into brain dead comments on supercars articles.

Had to laugh, new age caravans, lol, how about old age drivers of new age caravans, they already drive one missile and you want to give them another to tow behind?

Most of em are pen pushers who when they reach 65 and retire, think that they can drive a monstrous 4x4 and a monstrous caravan?..they can't, and I know from watching them try, that's try to kill me and others, good post

Cheers Billy

Yeah...I got a dream...build an all aussie electric car instead of hanging on to a dying technology that nobody will buy shortly.

Sounds to me like the only people who haven't realized my grandmother can line up with anything they can produce, or ever have produced, and absolutely flog them in daily driving in her Tesla....is Walkinshaw.

Not silly.

In new Zealand Toyota have what's called a signature class. where they sell and support used cars with a 3 year warranty been doing it for years

https://www.toyota.co.nz/about-toyot...yota-business/

Its not performance based but the same principle, I guess giving a Holden another 3 year warranty might be the issue

It's good that they are thinking outside of the box in some ways

And I see that they still license product to modify - why can't they move in to more of this with existing cars in Australia?

I mean, for instance they did the HSV Colorado at one point and I believe they do something for VW Amarok - but unlike their Commodore products they weren't hugely performance orientated.

Why can't they go to certain types of cars, or a specific brand again, and make some out-there products?

makes more sense than making a supercar nobody would buy
