Default Why is it so....Territory Ghia is no XR6

Okay, http://fordforums.com.au/images/smilies/doh.gifso here comes a dumb question....Are all Bara motors created equally?

I thought I would test drive a 2011 Territory with only 80 000 kms. Trade in my 2008 XR6 Ute with 140000 kms and get a better set up for my tools. Currently only a rag top over the back of the Ute to keep them safe.

But no way Jose! I just could not believe how slow the Territory was. Everything looked on paper to be similar, other than the extra weight and the auto box.

Never looked back...jumped in my Ute and was glad not to do the trade.

But is there anyway of getting a factory XR6 performance in a Territory...without a Turbo?

Shave off 600kg, maybe? The weight will be your single most massive impediment.

More weight, and slightly less power if the xr6 was an FG, which got a power bump over what was in the Territory.

6 speed Terri with the Barra isn't that much of a slouch for it's mass...says the guy still with regret for buying the 4 speed RWD.....

Yeah it weighs more, but at least a learning reset might restore whatever the real baseline is. The AWD isn't a bad thing with that ZF.

That additional 400kg, that the territory has over the XR6 is what you are feeling.

We used to have a few Territories at work.

I think the higher driving position makes it feel slower too (but yes weight definitely the major factor as stated ^)

Thanks guys.... you replies makes me think it was best to keep the XR6 Ute!

Every-time I drive it, i am just smiling and feeling good about the world. The Territory was refined, posh but did not know what a good time was.

Cheers

I remember one of those aggressive driving moments, where I was in my dad’s 2001 Volvo C70 convertible T5 and there was a lady in a Territory Turbo in the left lane which ended just after the lights. She seemed a bit frustrated when she had to get in the middle lane behind me. I don’t think she had to get on the brakes to do it either. It’s amazing little weight it takes to slow a car’s performance. The added parasitic loss from the AWD system doesn’t help either.

So you started this thread just to insult the Territory, and tell us how happy you are with your ute? M'ok.

If you want and need a Ute, then the best choice, is, a Ute.

Similarly, if you only drive in straight lines, on perfectly flat roads, with no moisture or loose stuff, then you will find the ox-cart adequate. If you carry a heavy load over the back wheels, its not only adequate but probably out performs IRS.
But in every other aspect the Territory ****s all over it.

RE-Genesis, we have SY AWD with ZF, and FG XR6 sedan, FG sedan (lux pack with 18s) rides more nicely, turns more nicely. But a Territory along winding mountain or coast roads loaded up with fam or friends and gear - surprisingly capable at doing a lot of the stuff, and still handling well. It's fun to reel in the Subies on the corners with the Terry

I had a 2008 TTG, and it was surprising how quick it could get up and go, when you wanted to. I left many a wannabe behind, wondering what had happened, in the ten years of ownership .

Yes, the turbo of the TTG makes a lot of difference, especially when mixed with the grip of AWD and the ranges within the 6 speed box.

Might have to mount a lock box in the ute for the tools.

My mate (loaded due to wife) just bought the new BMW X5 M Competition.

That might make your Ute feel a bit slow! (way overpriced of course)

Chances are my Territory will be a little bit quicker than your ute, carry 7 people in comfort and keep the tools safe.

Just get a turbo one to make up for the lard... you will never look at the Ute the same again.
