Yesterday my young bloke was involved in an attempted robbery at his work in Brisbane.
There was only the young receptionist and him there at that particular time. He was out the back doing paperwork when he heard an unusual noise, a thud, a crack and then female screaming. Being young (24) and invincible he runs to the front office only to see the young receptionist on the floor holding her bloodied face and an ******** going through the cash drawer. The robber took one look at my son (6’5”, 105kg, beard, tattoos and fit as) turned around and started running! It only took a few steps and my ex Rugby son tackled this bloke to the ground, put a sleeper hold on him and then locked him in an empty storeroom. He attended to the poor receptionist who had a broken nose and jaw from this lowlife while he phoned the police and ambos. The police arrived very quickly (the robber was still half out of it) and while one copper was delivering the official line, “You shouldn’t have really taken the robber on blah, blah, blah…” the other was giving him the thumbs up and saying, “Good on you, mate!” I have never been prouder of my son than I am today – he hates injustice and violence towards women which is why he did what he did – that and adrenaline! |

You've every right to be proud but keep an eye on him as that's some big time potential trauma that he & his workmates have been through!

I forgot to say that he does Brazilian jiu-jitsu and went to training that afternoon. One of their rules is that if you ever have to use the art for real, you must talk everything through with the Masters.
They were mightily impressed that he used just the right amount of force and gave plenty of advice and warning to the would-be-robber to calm down, stop struggling or he would be sleeping for a while. |

Good on him, except the guy should have "resisted violently officer thats why he has a broken jaw, a couple of fractured ribs and dislocated shoulder".

UPDATE:
Sarah, the young receptionist is doing well with her recovery. As it turns out the jaw wasn't broken - luckily - but was severely bruised. The nose is all fixed and she is in good spirits. It is possible that she will be back at work next week but she has been transferred to the corporate office at the airport - her bosses and Europcar have been extremely accommodating and don't want her to leave. |

All power to him, but unless he has already given his statement get him a lawyer before he opens his mouth. Doesn't matter what the coppers say to your face they write it down in their book and the most honest thing can sound atrocious in court.

Hats off to him in acting as he did.
Fortunately the individual was not armed or harmed in any manner. There are some good points and advice to consider in this thread so far. Truth be known, it a sad world we live in indeed when an individual running to the aid of another is given a lecture (or even charged) by a police officer for doing the "morally right" thing. I'm sure if the you strip the badge off the policeman and he was just some Joe Blow, he would probably have attempted the same. That BS aside, both you and your son can hold your heads high. Him for doing as he has and for you in raising him as you have. Well done. |

Your son did the right thing so good on him...Very unusal in this day and age... You did the right thing, raising him the way you did. Well done The receptionist...Glad she is on the road to recovery...Poor thing The scum bag....Hope he cops a hiding in the slammer....Hitting a female...Low life scum

Awesome work for the young bloke, he deserves all the congrats.
But, as a crim defense lawyer like myself, get him to knock up a statement pronto as he may be called into court to give evidence. Not to rain on his parade, but he can be charged with false imprisonment and assault, as the grub was running away when your young bloke collected him - but is extremely unlikely. It's the law, as much as I disagree.
