Default Fords answer to VF Commodore?

Considering the new Commodore is just round the corner and the new Falcon is 18 months away, what do people think Ford will do to counteract the boost in sales that will inevitably come with the new Commodore?. The 50th Anniversary models were popular in 2010, and the current limited edt XR's are a nice piece of kit, but what do people think Ford have left in the kit bag for the current Falcon. Series 3, dropping the price?, more competitive finance?.......

1 and 3, I hope so. I don't think dropping the price is a good idea, perhaps adding more goodies while maintaining the current price or having a slight increase is a better option.

A turbocharged 6, supercharged V8 and an economical 4 cylinder.

None of which Holden have at the moment.

Given Ford has a little longer than Holden, it gives them time to probably add in a few little touches Holden wouldn't have on the VF.

Make the RSpec goodies standard at the very least for ALL FPV's and the option to add to the XR6T and G6ET's.
Also, whilst on the subject, how about some decent looking wheels???

They've got the 2014 update, anything done for 2013 will likely just be limited or special editions, unless they decide to pull updates from 2014 and release them early like BA2-BF-BF2

A 300 hpn/a base level v8 wagon in auto and optional 6 speed manual with a massive weight reduction at around 1400kg , but its to late , maybe a v8 on a rwd Mondeo , until then I will stick with a Euro brand

How long has the Commodore out sold the Falcon for? Quite a few years, Ford didn't do a great deal then and probably wont do a great deal again. As has been said, large car sales are doomed in Australia.
One can only hope something special is around the first or second quater in 2014...I'll be due a change then.

OR they could develop and build a world class sedan with a choice of T4, NA6, T6, LPG6 and SCV8 that is quicker but gets better fuel economy than all of the Holden offers. They might call it the Falcon FG2.

They could also build a ute that has a choice of I6, T6, LPG6 and SCV8 and capable of use as a trayback or styleside in 500kg to 1 tonne configurations that can be used as a work ute as well as an urban cowboy posing chariot which of course again will be quicker and get better fuel economy than others. They could call this Falcon Ute FG2.

But there is always the wagon market? Maybe they will make a special Australian focused wagon built on a similar chassis to the sedan but set up to be either RWD or AWD and available with either petrol or diesel engines. These wagons would be superior to traditional offerings in ever way except for the "fully sic doof doofness" that is prized so heavily in maccas car parks. Of course this will not be an issue until the "sports wagoneers" start looking to buy in about 10 years or so.
Maybe they could give this a different name, how about Territory SZ?

Now here is the clever bit.

What if they actually did this more than a year before the Holden was released?

Wouldn't that be great?

If you have nothing to add, DON'T POST! I am sick of seeing all this falcon is doomed/dead rubbish.

How is this any different to looking at it with 'rose coloured glasses'?

The reality is large family sedan sales in Australia is on a decline, this can not be denied. I'm guessing this is also a contributing factor the GMH culling the Commodore range.

You forgot another one of the greats. The ECOlpi 6.

But we already have these things, and, well... I'm sure all 7 Ecoboost and ECOlpi owners will tell you how good they are. I think the OP is asking what NEW things the Falcon should have, to compete with a shiny new Commodore model.

I would bank on very minor tweaks, if anything at all.
If you can make a choice to ignore the media hocus pocus, sales figures, forum prattle etc. you notice that, by and large, it's simply 'business as usual' for Ford Australia and Falcon. To draw conclusions on Ford Falcon's imminent fate based on speculation dreamt up by those with a blatant reputation for manipulative drivel (i.e. internet auto news articles) is to make an embarrassment of yourself.
Hopefully we will get something along the lines of an FG Mk2.5, to keep things a bit fresh until the 2014 update.

well sure, if you want to compare the sales to previous years every month, but if you look at 2012 in isolation, the falcon at least has actually been pretty stable. sure, everyone would prefer they sold a few more, but for now, the slide has been somewhat arrested.

Ford won't react to VF, it has to compete with the hundreds of other opposition cars on the market today, not just the Commodore.

Especially with the 2014 Falcon already locked in.

Why spend millions to compete with just one other.
