Default sandblaster wrecked my bonnet .. spewing

so i got my panels sandblasted a couple months ago and now about to start the rust repair and body work on my falcon turns out my bonnet has been wrecked by the sandblasting, i asked the bloke before hand if blasting was ok on bonnet and roof because i had heard of them being ruined before he garunteed his work and we went ahead ..
my bonnet is in good nick with stuff all rust but now rippled, do i have any case against the blaster for him to pay for new bonnet or is it a lost cause ..

pretty annoyed

I thought it was pretty generally a no-no to sandblast sheet metal on a car, had been for years. They seem to all use soda or some sort of media blasting (plastic, peanut shells, etc) on cars today, and leave the sandblasting for industrial machines and big pieces of heavy equipment.

Sandblasting with steel pellets flattens out the steel its hitting and warps it.
Glassbeading is better.

to answer your question rather than just tell you what you now know, if you have the gaurentee in writing you have a case this include the gaurentee being mentioned in advertising. if it is a verbal gaurentee then it is a grey area

Some time back when I was restoring old cars, it was basically sandblast at your own risk. Unfortunately I'd very much doubt you'd get any compensation from the sandblaster.

I found chemical stripping the safest way to remove paint, especially when the panels were virtually unreplaceable.

No one in their right mind would sand blast a bonnet, or any other car panels for that matter, the only guarantee you get is that the panels will be stuffed.

Do you have anything in writing saying he guarantees no damage??

Sorry to hear that. A verbal guarantee should give you some grounds. I would talk to small claims tribunal first. They can give you advice. Imhad mine Garnett blasted but the guy said he wouldn't touch roof boot bonnet accept on the edges

Sorry to hear mate. Welcome to the evergrowing club of people who have been screwed over by dodgy automotive tradespeople. You could go back to the blaster but most likely he"ll just laugh in your face, or try to tell you that your panels were actually warped when you dropped them off.
Those top gear guys say you cant be a real gearhead untill youve owned an Alfa. But i say you cant be a real gearhead till youve been ripped off by dodgy mechanics, painters , panelbeaters, blasters etc.
Although that makes anyone who"s ever owned a car, a real gearhead
