I have a (sort of friend) whose about to lay down some money for a 2010 BMW, 5 series with an I6, despite the luxury price tag, good looks and reliability, how do the Ford and BMW engines compare? I don't know BMW's at all, and he's been boasting about the car for quite some time now (without actually driving it)
I know the 7 series has a 3.0l twin turbo version, but not sure if the 5 series has this option? The dudes VERY anti-ford, calls my FG 6 a : would love to take him to the track and smoke him, should I be worried with either the 3.0l or TT3.0L |

I dragged off a porsche boxter in the old xt... as far as I'm aware 2.9litre straight six and one hell of a light body, so fairly similiar I would think. It'd be pretty close between the two N/A's.

If he has a turbo model you're gonna get smacked!
Any of the larger sixes 2.8 or bigger then it will be fairly close I'd say. |

Not to mention the 535 gt with 225kW 3L I6 and 400nm from 1200rpm
Either way. the FG sixes are capable of 14.5s quarters stock so it would be failry close. |

I would say the the bmw would just pip you due to power/weight info posted above. Doesn't the Ford na six pump out 205 on 98 and nearly 400nm?
What would be interesting is a xr6t or g6e against the bmw turbo engine? Either way i rate the oz fg six very well considering the budget ford has to work with compared to bmw. Nissan being the other great straight six.

I remember a similar thread, same OP, not going well.
It would be close, personally the BMW is probably just a tad faster but I'd prefer a falcon.

Im not too sure a 5 series owner would give two hoots about "getting smoked at the track"... he's probably off to the cafe' for a late' or work to make the next 100k.... in style.

I agree that the Ford 6 is a fantastic motor, ive been really happy with mine, only a few issues, but most of them are gone now. Why did BMW go twin turbo instead of a single? I always thought TT suited V6's more? 76txcoupe, only other thread ive had similiar to this was the VE or FG, I was deciding on a car to buy and thanks to this forum, I went with the FG. |

On the previous shape 6cyl M3s they had problems with engines grenading, their solution? They dropped the max RPM by 500.

I think a FG (with the ZF) vs 530 would be pretty damn close.
G6ET would smoke any 5 series apart from the M5. It doesnt appear the 535 is sold here, regardless, the turbo Falcons would still own it.

Anyone with brains would not buy a i6 BMW to race or care about speed, especially a 530i or something, they are more for style and comfort, which they are.
Yes the earlier model M3's 03' i beleive had a few engines grenading. |

In my opinion - Two different Genre's - European motorway comfort compared to australian freeway practicality.
I have this problem with Nissan skyline drivers - "I coo wip yor *** ute boy!" they say. My response is - "No doubt! but lets race towing a trailer!" But to answer your question, I think he might JUST beat you. 3.0L aye? compared to 4L Ford? and yours a manual? the BMW an Auto? Hmm.
