Default Gt Ho 428???

ok here is an interesting tit bit (well i think so) did you know that Ford brought out one only GT HO with a 428 cobra motor, they had planned to sell it following the 351, it was Black but sadly the Government at the time squashed it and would not let it happen. My dad told me this last night he saw the car in the flesh when it was new. I wonder if it is still about somewhere in its original state, how much would that be worth. :eclipsee_

The car you're refering to is a black 1969 auto/T code 351 Windsor XWGT that was sent to the states and fitted with a 428/C6, sunroof, shaker, big seats etc for Bill Bourke. It wasnt a GTHO, it was a styling exercise/present for Bourke.
It alive and well in Sydney.

thats a shame it never got the go ahead. a 428 powered phase 4 would have thrashed the xu2s

It would have been too front heavy for circuit racing, and although maybe faster in a straight line lap times would be slower due to the handling issues...

The 351 Phase 4 would have thrashed the XU2 - the 428 was redundant by that stage unless you wanted your F-million truck to really shift. I doubt whether there was ever any serious consideration for going into production with them seeing as the Cleveland was about to be introduced to Falcon - as stated, it was a one-off built just because they could.

Anyway, that's my one and only contribution to the zillion or so Bill Bourke 428 topics here :

Probably an Audi. I'd hazard a guess that MDs and CEOs these days are pretty far removed from the likes of Bill Burke when it comes to their wheels...

They were concept vehicles from memory done for "personal use" using 2 redundant crate motors the had sitting around. They were later fitted and sold with 351's. Ford did plenty of these kind of vehicles including V8 capri's, V8 cortina's V6 escorts... etc... Its common practice for all car companies to look "out side the square" so to speak. It doesnt mean though that any of them were remotely close to production though..

Im quite suprised that people dont build mock-ups of these? Are the regs stopping it? Although Im guessing the price tag on a 428 would be cringe worthy!

On the performance side of things ive driven a stock Phase 3 and a 428 powered mustang back to back and the Phase 3 felt quicker and certainly more willing to rev...
The mustang did feel like it had more torque, especially off the line, but felt nose heavy and not as balanced as the P3..

yes i do believe that is a big part of the problem-
the lack of passion from the people who count....
i wonder how many of the upper ford hierarchy would
do a track day with a current model ford just because they could.

if i was in those shoes you would be levering my behind out of the drivers seat only when the fuel ran out!!

In the US Ford execs were all driving Jags. Even though they are part of the Ford family, how many people actually know they are owned by Ford.
