Simple question do you prefer the old school Fords or the new school Fords?
Hard to define old school or new school though. I'm not sure whether you would clasiify old school from the XK until the XD or would you classify it up to the introduction of unleaded fuel and the demise of the Cleveland V8. I love my Fairmont but there is something about driving old muscle cars that new cars will never match. Newer cars seem more fragile and overly complex and will never match the raw feel of a big, solid and simple carby fed V8 plus all the computer technology and extra features simply means there is more to go wrong and you can do less work yourself so have to depend more on outside mechanics. Newer cars are plasticky and stuff breaks and dents easy nothing like the old Valiant and XT which you could treat like a dog and they ould still ask for more. Old cars had their problems though with rust being a constant battle and it was almost a ritualistic thing working on the car every weekend. Hard choice myself I know I wont be happy until I have both a FPV Typhoon and a 1968 Fairmont 302W in my garage. |

Definitley prefer new cars. The better old cars are getting to be worth stupid amounts of money... so not only do they not accelerate, brake, corner... or run reliably like new cars but they're also worth 5x more now so you're too afraid to drive them lest they be damaged, written off or stolen.
FPV F6 Typhoon over GT-HO Phase III any day. The collectable is nice, but its best left to someone who wouldn't drive it into the ground... ie - not me!

last thursday I was rear ended by a mercedes C180 kompressor. the 1979 P6 chrome bumper bar destroyed the mercedes good. I drove away, he didnt.
I would encourage people to buy new cars, they make good crumple zones for my cars.

New most definitely. I don't really care about old cars that much. It's not very often I would say "Oh look at that" about an older car.

I dont think i'd be able to live with a Old school car as a daily. For a daily driver it'd definitly have to be new school but would love an Old school ford for weekends and just to cruise in.

Should have had another category - 'Both'
Its good to have the modern technology for the daily runners or weekenders that dont want to or know how to tinker, but its also good to have the older technology for nostalgic reasons - a pure enthusiast car. |

Nothing beats cruising around in a nice old car with the rumble of a v8..Sure they might not be as reliable and you may need to work on them alot more but that is the fun of having an older car. I believe it makes you appreciate the car more knowing that you have poured the money in and done the work yourself. An old school car will turn alot more heads then a modern car and that feeling is just awesome

Im still trying to get my head around a bloke in a BF GT thinking he is on the same par with a GTHO at car shows. :togo:
Love the old stuff for sure. Not really into rods and customs as much though as they all just jumping on the bandwagon especially the VW's and old Morris's joining in too.

old skool look great and it feels good to drive them old v8s sound great but it can be very hard to get parts but new cars with 6 years factory warranty are so much easier to get parts for. Had a mate whos dad had a 1962 chev a woman across the road in some tiny jap car left the handbrake off her car rolled across the road and hit the chev flattening out a bit of stainless trim the jap car had to be towed

Old school here. I like new cars too, but only as a daily. Just went for a drive in a 2007 Mazda 6, and OMG .....Makes me want to sell the VL, and buy one in a 5 speed manual. Would be a great car for everyday use.
Anyway I hate how new cars all look like direct copies of each other. Where has the originality gone? |

I prefer modern or "new school" for every day driving, distance driving etc.. and i prefer "old school" as my sunday play toy.

I would rather have a unique looking one off car than a car that you can find at any of the local shopping centre carparks.
