Population growth means only bad things.
In the apple situation. What if 50% of new arrivals don't eat apples or grow their own in their backyards? Plenty of examples where the (immigration) population advancement has not shown to have had the desired amount of spending in this country.

When I was there a few years ago I bought a wad of 35 mint condition 50 billion notes and gave em to my students to use as a book mark
I think they set me back a few (real) dollars each.

Quite easily... It gets shipped off to China/Thailand/India or whatever other country is willing to do it for a fraction of the cost.

What I don't understand is the banks who make billions of profit each year keep outsourcing jobs to overseas?
How is that fair? Wages are cheaper overseas but they're still clearing huge profits? |

Reading through all this shows me how passionate everyone is about this! There's some very valid and constructive points to be taken from this. At the end of the day everyone has to just take a good look around at how the next guy handles this situation, not everyone is going to like what they hear or see. We can still live a 5 star lifestyle ,just cruise along or somewhere in between but live within their means!
I personally have removed myself from watching doom and gloom TV which just runs on "media beat up" and consuming my time with family, hobbies and just cruising a long with friends with the same outlook, remove yourself a little from social media and don't become so reliant on it, who cares what some is or isn't having for dinner, where they've been or the location they have visited, it's not that interesting. Just my 2 cents worth |

Curious. Is there a locally produced car available in every segment?

....... just making it clear in every language possible. As said above, if something isnt produced here, should we miss out or pay through the nose for it because it is made here? In many cases, buying an imported product is supporting an Australian small retail business and an Australian family.

A very interesting video describing the Irish property market and its subsequent collapse, with many similarities to Australia's property market highlighted. Goes for 1 hour 16 minutes but well worth it. We can all put our fingers in our ears and sing la la la and pretend that everything will be ok, but the warning signs are there and they are very real. |

Been a primary (kindy to Yr6) teacher for the past 10 years and have started teaching high school 'Technology' (or woodwork / graphics / model making / "Design and Technology" as it was called when I was at school) as of this year.
Actually teaching my old yr6 class this year - the main reason I said yes to the job as they were (and still are) the best bunch I have had under my wings.

A couple of years back, a work colleague brought in a one trillion dollar note from Zimbabwe. It cost about 3 or 4 Aussie dollars...

Got doubles of everything from Zimbabwe, including a few trillion dollar notes as well. Official currency there now is the USD.

I got a nice Christmas present today. Redundancy.
Two years ago the owner of the business pretty much begged me to work for him, so I shut my mobile bicycle servicing business and went to work for his shop( secure job/less hassle) The owner and manager have made some bad business decisions this year and some of the staff are quite passive aggressive towards customers, the workshop manager is very rude to customers and talks down on them if they come back with problems. They have lost customers to a couple of other business's and the managers are too concerned about trying to get them back to the shop than just trying to find new customers. I made stacks of suggestions to get new customers in and they put all the suggestions down. Workshop and sales figures have been down for the past 8 months, I have brought in more money this year than the workshop manager (he just pretends to work alot of the time) and I have established good relationships with many customers... plus he has caused around $20k worth of damage from mistakes on bikes, but he manages to worm his way out of it. I was last employed so I'm first to go, don't get a redundancy payout because it's less than 15staff. Only get my 4 weeks holiday pay. |

To be honest I never want to work in a bike shop again. Im 25 and have been working on bikes the past 10 years
Since mid October I've been doing training on my days off to gain tickets/competencies so I can try to get into construction or something. (Hopefully) So far I have spent $2700 and have gotten the following. -working at heights -confined space entry -cpr and first aid -forklift -breathing apparatus And a couple of other things. I sent out around 10 resumes last night. I need to find a job fast because ive got a mortgage to pay, fortunately I don't spend much money so I have a decent amount in my offset account to to keep me going for a while and I have been making extra payments. Online sales have been hurting the bicycle industry, so when customers bring in parts or bikes to the shop the guys refuse to do the job or quote them far too much to do the job and the people go elsewhere. I've tried to tell the guys that the shop should accept the jobs and charge normal pricing, a customers money is as good as anybody elses and in this climate they shouldn't be picky. Apparently im wrong. |

That's exactly how Capitalism works, the top 1% set their wage then the rest goes to shareholders. The dregs that are left filter down to the workers eventually.

And that is why capitalism will fail just like communism, socialism, feudalism, totalitarianism etc. all did.

I don't think capitalism will ever 'fail'. The desire to reap a monetary or material profit is as old as humanity itself... Self gain is a strong motivator for those who have the drive and ability, as opposed to socialism which is a self defeating system. I'm not sure feudalism failed. I think it just became redundant as society's values changed. I think totalitarianism is alive and well in China and the minds of those who don't like democracy...

Not really, back in the day we use to trade goods of equal value before they came up with the idea of adding value to pieces of paper.
Capitalism might not 100% fail but all but the top few producing countries economies will go under eventually as they won't be able to create anything 'sustainable' in a global market. Cars are just the first thing too go.

Therein lies an opportunity. You seem to have a good work ethic, make more money than the manager, get on well with the customers, know the difference between a good and bad business decision and seem a pretty friendly fellow while the others have no respect for customers and the business is losing them at a rate of knots and is struggling to make ends meet. You now have the most brilliant opportunity presented to you. Start a similar business on your own, hire any of the staff from your former employer that were any good and if your former boss is shutting shop because of financial ruin offer him a pittance for his stock and/or tools.
