You guys have no idea how close this was to actually being built in Australia.
Blame the GFC and the Australian dollar.

Me likey! Looked at a few modified ones of these and they look amazing! Very attractive car! With a good rumble I will push Dad towards one, instead of another Caprice, or go for a drive at least..

Hyundai are starting to make some really nice cars but to be honest I think this is one of their poorer efforts, its styling looks like its the bastard child of a Honda Accord and 5 series Beemer.

I'm pretty sceptical it will even make it here. Only recently the CEO said it would not come here.
I'll believe it when I see it. This article states its not for Australia as they don't build the Genesis in RHD, and we will be getting the 2 door coupe but only the V6 and turbo 4. They don't make the V8 in RHD. http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...257838001760B5 |

The coupe looks nice, a touch hairdresser but that V6 is a ripper.

A V8 is nothing magical or special...it's just another way to package an engine. There are far more powerful and efficient ways to move a car, but a V8 still has a certain allure to some people. Not many going by sales figures, but a few.
It's probably similar to the Toyota/Lexus "hemi-style" V8 when they first appeared...they were laughed at when they first came out, but then next thing you know, hot rods and other modified smaller cars were sprouting them all over the place. The first one I saw was in an unfinished project at a car show many years back, an FJ panel van I think, highly polished and detailed nicely. It was drawing a lot of attention. The bloke had one on a chassis stand out the front of his exhibit, and was importing them for people. People will initially scoff about the Hyundai V8...but maybe not as much as they did in years past. |

Oh, and the car that is confirmed for Australia is the Genesis coupe - which is not available with a V8, only a 2.0L turbo four or V6. |

Are the coupes coming? Or just the 4 door?
I've been waiting for so long for these. Will be looking at the finances in the new year. |

been a fan of Hyundai for many years since the Genesis coupe. if the V8 comes here would be a welcome site, especially if it is competitive against the likes of Holden/Ford. if it's Lexus prices well i don't like it's chances, hyundai in Australia has not yet earned the rep its starting to over the rest of the world.

Genesis is a Falcon competitor, the V8/R-Spec version would be up against the G6E Turbo or G8E (if it ever happens). The R-Spec version has not been tuned as a performance version but more of a luxury performance variant.
Equus is basically the Caprice comptitior. I would like to see this article confirming that the Genesis will be coming to Australia, as previously they have denied that they could sell a Hyundai in a price bracket that iss representative of the actual vehicle's capability. Would definately like to see this car here. |

I was never a fan of Hyundai myself either, but the latest batch of Hyundai's have been an eye opener for me. The i45 in particular. I think if ever there was scope for a Hyundai V8 version to come to Australia, I would welcome it. In my opinion, its good to have a diversity of good cars to choose from.
Confirmation of the Genesis Coupe to Australia can be read here --> http://www.caradvice.com.au/134931/h...for-australia/ Carsales on the coupe. http://www.carsales.com.au/news/2011...is-coupe-26412

Why are there so many whingers out there? The Australian car market is over protected by the government, let them bring in high end Hyundais and Kia's. It's only then the Aussie car builders will pull their fingers out of their ***** and build decent quality cars!
Oh don't support Korean/Thailand/Asian built cars...Guessing you haven't noticed where many of the components fitted to the Falcon come from?

From the looks of it, they may even be talking about the Genesis coupe. The Genesis sedan has already received its facelift, the Genesis coupe facelift is currently under development and should be out soon. But then 185kw v8............possibly a typo and was supposed to be 285kw, which is the figure of the base V8. Anyway if true, would definately look forward to seeing this car in Australia. |
