Rest In Peace Boyd Coddington. You'll be missed. Everything you have bought to the hot rodding, custom and street machining community has always raised the bar for cars builders all over the world.
Such a big loss in every way. RIP

Apparently he had been hospitalized in early January after a fall at home and had been recovering, he has also been struggling with his diabetes and his death may also be due to complications brought on from a recent surgery.
But cause has not been made official as yet.

Hopefully the work he put into the Coddington Foundation will continue on in his memory. He gave a lot back to the community as well as his immense talent as a car builder.

That's true he was very generous.
I was touched by the fact that he gave jobs to people that would otherwise find it very difficult in society to find employment, and the story about the terminally ill kid that he gave a once in a lifetime chance to build his dream car. |

He will be missed.. He lived his life the way he wanted.. Sheesh but having two wife's on your payroll ??? No wander he was grumpy ....But he had his fun too...
The American Hot rod Show does make him seem grumpy, but in reality it he wasn't like that.. Even "Chip Foose" said that recently... Watching this show has made many people think "they can do it" I'm sure many cars in projects section on this site has started or been enhanced, given confidence by Boyd and the show... Up there with Indian Larry ...

Sad to hear.
History will record him as a true Custom/Rodding legend, and rightly so. While I haven't seen a lot of it I don't think the TV show did much for his reputation, he should have just let his work attest to his, and his teams, skills and talents. Quote:

I only ever met Boyd the once (well a couple of times at the 0ne event) it was the hot rod nats at Hawksberry a few years ago, it was not an actual meeting more we chatted about things we saw on different cars as we bumped in to each other arround the show, he was a very different man (in a great way) to the boyd you see on the show, perhaps it was becasue he wasnt working or the show dosent always show him in a positve light. but I really enjoyed the chats as they were constrcuive enformative and you could feel his pashon for home build rods over the cheque book trailer sailers
I watch the show (infact my kids gave me series 1 & 2 on DVD for my birthday last week) but I will remember Boyd for the conversations at Hawksberry not the dwayn show

Seeing the show they would see they film for a weeks at a time over the build. Then find the drama, create a story line and squeeze it into a 40min show, while trying to retain the progress of the build and trying to keep the audience that actually wants to see the end product. Then having to make into a hand full of episodes. Not surprising that they don't always look favorable. And to sort of be the devils advocate. I even sort of feel for Duane, being that our positions(not jobs) are similar. Having to babysit grown ups and make sure they work, do it right and on time. Can get really frustrating, turns you into a harsh slave driver. Anyway. They released a statement, viewed HERE
