Hey guys,
This might sounds stupid. I've received confirmation that I can borrow some money for a car, but I can't decide what I want... I really want an XR6 Turbo, or even an XR6 but with these stupid fuel prices I'm thinking maybe a Focus or something bigger but on gas. Any input/opinions would be appreciated. I've heard you can get a gas conversion with direct injection for about $5k. regards Joel |

get an xr6T and put it on straight gas ??
i've adapted to the fuel prices, i havn't driven my car in four days cause i can't afford fuel :( |

Your best option is to research each car you are interested in by finding out what others have said (around the forum) and also on the net itself...
But... your best research will come when you leave your money at home and take each car you like the look of for a test drive.. Remind yourself to test drive as many as possible and do that for a week or so. Then and only then start to work out which car you really want... A Pros and Cons list is fantastic help in these sort of situations... Good luck with whatever you decide to buy

Would an XR6T go alright on gas?
and would it cost more to get it on gas? Also anyone know a good place in Perth to get a gas conversion? |

The way I see it, is that no matter what you drive oil companies are still going to bleed you dry... I would say, if you want an XR6T, just get one and enjoy driving it!
To hell with the petrol prices, we dont ned them to dictate our lives

I would agree with you there, but I do not have a money tree, so petrol prices will unfortunately effect my decision on what car to buy.

If you want an XR6 Turbo get one in the scheme of things the difference in fuel really doesn't amount to much, leave the gas for your BBQ.

Yeah, XR5T would be nice, but 40k is out of range for myself.
I found a BA XR6T for $27k, otherwise I found a turbo kit for the Focus for ~$5k. |

Other than petrol I'd be considering the price of insurance and in the case that you might want to turbo your car (eg a Focus which isn't already turbo'd) can you get insurance for the car at your age with those mods ?
Petrol prices aren't getting any better so factor in how much money you're likely to have at the end of the week after paying for rego, insurance, running costs etc.

The XR5 uses almost as much as an XR6T anyway - what is it 2L per 100 at the most, so you end up saving $8 per 400km refill, which is bugger all. Would rather have the 6 personally.
Also I have not heard of any gas kits for the XR6T and I have not seen the SGVI setups handling boost (yet) - there Is a bloke on performance forums who thinks he can do it though...(his old man fits gas and he helps out occasionally and he has a gas reaserc powered turbo escort - might even be a member here?) |

fuel isnt such a worry, i mean, yes it is expensive, but, its one of the cheapest things for the car, i mean if you fill up every 2 weeks, or maybe one depending how much you drive, estimateing its a 68 litre tank it will onky cost( if the fuel is 1.50 per litre) it will cost $102, so if your fill up in average $204 per month, which is $2448 per year, so when you think about it, it isnt as drammatic as you think

Go an AU Series III XR6 or 8 and use the leftover coin to mod it a bit or make a nice payment on your loan. A lot of people underestimate and overlook the AU's cos they're not a BA, but if you can find a clean example, and throw a bit at it, they have the potential to give a lot of BA's and BF's a damn good run for their money.

i agree au xr6 or 8 briliant cars and both are much better on fuel. my 185 au2 xr8 ute used less fuel then my bf 6 cld ute

XR6 Turbo , Rip out the Petrol , Full Gas Research System , Tweek the Turbo for Gas , add nozzle to gas tank incase of empty cylinders at Ford Dyno Barbeques,
then Fuel wont be an Option , I must be the only one happy to pay $150.3 a liter for Fuel ... or the only one Stupid Enought !!!! Daniel

Mate if you would prefer the Falcon BA XR6 or XR6T (instead of a smaller buzz box) but fuel is one of your major considerations. Consider getting a nice BA Mk II if you can XR6 will be cheaper on Insurance etc (but if you really want the T make sure you really research its service history).
I have cut & pasted a reply to a thread I recvd from GOLDIE in the LPG forum. "vapour injection is the go now ba sedan 3600 fitted there is no direct injection systems. injected gas gives better power and economy. i use landi renzo systems. Ian __________________ Acid rush txr6,5.1 surround sound,350 rwkw's,major interior trim work." So as others suggested if you get get a ncye BA XR6 for low 20's to mid 20's & then spend upto 4K on vapour injection (& as I think your in the West then the State govt chips in $1k) Do you do alot of kay's mate?

Just do what I do. Buy and XR6T and not look at how much petrol is. I dont bother anymore. I just fill it up........pay........and have lots of fun in it!!

a gas 6 will cost less to run than a petrol 4 banger. youll find yourself pushing the 4 more than the 6 anyway

Moving away from the XR6's
(As you can tell I really have no clue what car I want, I'm just sick of my '89 corolla) I've been looking at Territory's and found Redbook reckons they use 13.5L/100k's... :O I know you all say just ignore the fuel prices, but its hard when you dont have a huge income. (single income that is) I do about 350-400k's a week and yes I'm west (Perth). Cheers bt0 |
