Look, anything that helps in the event of an incident tech wise I'm all for, so for example ABS, EBD etc etc

Tech in cars that is not needed is like your fully integrated multimedia systems (Bookface, Twatter et al), the iDrive system in some Subies, things like that are not needed.

I read a quote about Steve Jobs that implied that his genius was not in the actual technology, but in making people buy stuff that they didn't even know they needed until he had released it. Without turning this into an apple vs the rest, just think of the technology that we did survive without, but now it seems imperative.
I think the same is with the technology of the car. yep I grew up without reversing sensors, seat belt warnings, cd players, blue tooth etc. I didn't even know I was missing them until I sat in a newer vehicle. Did I need them? No
would I buy a car with them?yes
but would it be the only reason I decide to buy that particular car? no
