Target have a deal for $199 with a choice of a game, you have 2 to choose from.
BigW have a similar deal with lay-by until Dec 22. 12gb is enough for minimum game installs and the game will run off the disc. I have been told XBox requires more HDD space as there games need to load more on to HDD.

I thought that the disc in PS3 games where blue ray and being 12 gb wasn't enough ,as kids are kids this could be a problem...but I dont know.
maybe 12gb is enough if the disc is left in and game stages can be saved cheers |

12gb is not enough, the 4gb xbox is a joke. Some games alone will install up to a gb or more from the disc, some updates are huge. I don't know why either company even bother offering the cheap consoles. 60gb should be the minimum console size imo.

12gb is too small!
I have a 320gb and that is over 1/2 full! By the time he installs games to the HDD for faster loading times, does game updates it adds up rather quick. |

you can install a larger hard drive in it without voiding warranty - takes the standard 2.5" sata drive you get in laptops - recommended you go 5400rpm to keep the heat down.

Game saves are small, but updates are huge and having 3-4 games installed will easily eat that up. GT5's update is over 4GB. You could buy the 12gb and then buy a 2.5" sata HDD (Laptop) and buy the bracket and swap it over yourself and save some money. http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/game/...bracket/676766 Though If you look at it this way a HDD will costs around $60 for a 500GB from MSY, $12 for the HDD caddy and if your have other children or have their friends come over you'll need another controller soon which will cost around $50ish, so that puts you at $122, it might be better to go with the Big W deal which consists of: PS3 500GB Console bundle $329 Includes: PS3 500GB console 2x Dualshock controllers Motor storm apocalyse game $7 more for Motorstorm which would be worth no more than $10 imo. 12GB is a joke... I have one and also a 1st Gen 60GB. I use the 12GB one as a back up Blu-Ray player just in case. I can guarantee (just like everyone else) that even one game alone will take all of that consoles HDD space, as Bionic XR6 said about GT5, that game alone takes about 9GB to fully install onto the drive. It'd be better in the long run if you could find yourself a PS3 model with at least 40GB or more.

I don't know about the new slim PS3's, but it is SO easy to change the hard disk in the original PS3's. Any laptop hard disk fits.
But yes, 12 GB is too small. I had 40 originally, and put an 80gb hard disk out of an old laptop in it. 80GB isn't really enough but I make do.
